The 5131 is an exceptional piece.
I'd be happy enough with a 5130J considering the price difference of roughly $100k.

Not really so. I spoke with two different Patek Salons and kept "reminding" them that I am still interested. When I met some people from the manufacturer, I always asked about this watch. Quite simply I worked hard in order to get it.
However, I must admit that it is probably partly a matter of luck who manages to get it. I am not a big client of PP but still I have several watches.

Some AD's sell them for over retail. Not as much as grey but some will only sell over retail.

In my opinion anybody who is getting an offer from an AD over the retail should inform the same to PP Geneva. The margin the AD is getting is very good and I'm sure that Patek does not appreciate retailers who do not follow the agreement they have with the principal.

I admit; I'm getting exited.

At the same time I'm looking forward. Should I just save for the 175 year model, try to get 5131J or what... A lot of thinking but to think about future watches is always positive.

Does anybody know the how many pieces of the 5131 a big boutique (like geneva) gets in a year? Zurich told me that they get only 1 piece every year, but told me bigger boutiques get more. Any opinions?

99 % of those who want one should stop dreaming ...

Last year I was in the Geneva boutique and asked more info about the 5131

I was told that they have about 100 requests . 100 in only 1 boutique
there are about 400 dealers and a few boutiques
Most AD will have a list with a few people (not the 100 as in the geneva boutique)
But still, there are probably a few Thousand people who want one

Nobody knows how many they make but between 50 an 70 per year is probably a good guess

so try to calculate your chance to get one LOL

Ans the 5131j is already 6 years in production .... I would say time to discontinue

forgot to mention this ...

We visited the boutique with some friends and one of us was wearing a 5070P.
The guy from the Geneva boutique asked if he could see that piece. He said it was been quite a while since he saw one. That 5070P was MUCH more rare than a 5131 according to the sales person.
He said the 5070P was really, really rare

The 5131 was popular because there is a huge Asian demand ( mainly China)
Enamel was Always hot in China and therefore they love the 5131.
Ofcourse this watch is also popular in the rest of the wordl but the biggest demand seems to come from China.

Rarity is one thing, love another

I had a funny situation: I could get maximum two out of my three dream watches: 5070P, 5140P and 5131G.

I skipped 5070P and it wasn't easy. Why: for me a perpetual calendar is much more useful than a chronograph. Furthermore, one day there will be 5170P and Patek knows for sure that people loved the chronograph with a blue dial.

Tough day tomorrow: I have to fly to London and pick up my 5131G. The taxi will come in less than 5 hours and then the journey starts. An interesting day ahead - it's better to go and have a four hours sleep.

Best, Kari

A great friend of mine works at an Authorized Patek AD and handles all incoming watches. When she inquired at her Patek training in NYC last summer she was told that 8- 5131s were allocated for the US market last calendar year. As many on this forum have said, the process to make these dials is very labor intensive and many get disposed of due to Patek's high standards. Kari, Looking forward to pics!
