I do not show anyone my watches but on occasion I get a random, "Nice Watch", and I answer, thanks.

Kind of annoying and I find ways to navigate around giving a solid answer, but I think to most non-watch enthusiasts, price the only thing they really care about with nice watches.
Pretty much. But as for someone saying "show me your watch," that has never, EVER happened.

I never show people my watch and rarely does anyone ask about them. I do get an occasional “mister, do you have the time?”

Does it tend to be a genuine enquiry or is it followed by a period of memory loss and a headache?

Wearing 24/7 for 34 years and only thankfully had one coment which was a couple of years back from a lad in his late teens. I've never shown anyone my watch...wtf?

Nobody notices. Ever. So disappointing.

I have gotten more comments on my red and green OPs than on any watches I’ve ever had. The comments always start with “that’s a cool watch!,” they don’t even know it’s a Rolex.
I did have the SA in a Tudor Boutique last week comment on my BLRO, just a compliment not a request to see it up closer.

I walk around in public and often times I will approach a stranger and casually wave my watch in their face.

If they don’t say anything, I’ll say excuse me sir but this is a 116718, you must not have noticed it.

Then I’ll stare in amazement as they walk past without saying a word.

How rude!!!

Last time I can remember, a friend who's not into watches asked me how much did my TT Sub cost me. Since it was the only thing he wanted to know, I said "a few grand, can't remember exactly how much", I was lying of course. In general, the people who asked me that question did it to judge and make fun, so I tend to not answer it.

Lots of people look, they know, you know, I always look to see what someone is wearing I’m interested in someone else’s taste in watches, I don’t care what brand if they have an interest and want to chat I’ll chat ..
Someone asked me if I had the new Omega Speedmaster on - disgusted I said no it’s a Daytona Panda .. and sounded like a right nit-wit …
Jeweller I get my wife’s diamond bits from asked to try my Sprite on saying never seen one, I can’t make it up I had it on upside down having worn my Daytona for a bit ..

I think some folks look and notice, but don't really say anything. Actually I'd be more nervous if someone took a keen interest in a Rolex I might be wearing (especially if they talk to you directly) and would be watching my back...ha! Honestly I see more (visual only) reactions to my various G-Shocks. Personally I prefer to fly under the radar and derive more personal private enjoyment. The SAs seem to react enthusiastically when I mention having a Hulk as part of my collection. I think it’s something of a myth that everyone is going to notice your watch probably from years of Rolex advertising. Cheers.

I notice a few glances at my watch (in a WIS admiration way) and occasionally someone will say “nice watch” or “nice ___” (insert model name here.)
Fairly uncommon though.

I personally love talking watches with strangers. I’ll only say something to someone else wearing a nice watch if I can do so discreetly without anyone else around hearing.

Once I was wearing my Pepsi meteorite and a guy spotted it and dropped his jaw and said “whoa, niiiice.” I kind of liked that. lol!

Quite literally one of the most uncomfortable things ever. Like many others, I don’t “show” my watch to anyone. It’s always a bit cringy when some random person engages you about your watch.

I want to talk about my watches with my friends because I love watches and I get very excited about the topic. I’ve been that way since I was probably around 10.

Unfortunately I have 0 friends that I would bring it up to because I never want it to come off as bragging. The cost involved makes that very difficult and I could easily argue it’s no different than the amount they spend on their hobbies but then it feels confrontational…

I had an opportunity recently while watching the masters with my buddy. He brought up Rolex specifically but kept saying he equated them to “success” and I wanted to disagree that it isn’t always the case. The timing just felt wrong for a friendly debate as they have just experienced a terrible family tragedy.

He may have noticed mine at some point but assumed they were fake because I’m not what others would consider financially successful. It’s just how I choose to spend my hobby budget. I have also bought a watch to mark occasions of sorts. Like my Sub was to celebrate surviving a terrible auto accident.

Short answer, no one really comments and while I want to talk about watches I also don’t really want the attention…

A host of comments. Is that a sub… nice watch oh it’s a Rolex, oh nice watch aren’t you afraid to get robbed.

I’m not going to play the no one notices line because they do (watch lovers). Only a select few will be cool enough to talk watches with you.

So what is the first words that people say to you when you show them your watch?

Typically it’s people noticing passively vs me actively showing. 9/10 it’s a mild reaction i.e. “nice watch”, “I love that” etc. doesn’t happen often either.

The wilder reactions are rarer but can be quite memorable and range from positive to negative.

“That’s an old fogey’s watch” from a dear friend’s newfound boyfriend.

“Ay yooo!! That’s a Pepsi!” followed by “shieeet that’s 10k”, from a patient’s family member in clinic.

“Is that a new Pepsi?” Followed by a watch exchange at an airport lounge with a fellow traveling watch aficionado.

Same with me. I wear my watches, I don’t “show” them. That would be a bit weird.

I don’t “show them”. The most comments I’ve had from people are on a GM-2100 g-shock saying nice watch. Not once has anyone ever commented on my Exp II and I prefer it that way.

Why? Just curious…does it upset you if someone sees your watch? So what exactly is the issue here???

It’s just a watch

If you buy a new Corvette, you show it to people. If you buy a new boat, you invite them on it for a day cruise.

People on this forum act as if a Rolex is on some sort of a holy pedestal and it can’t be shown to anyone. Of course you can show your watch to people if you want to.

It makes sense to show your watch to a watch enthusiast if they ask.

I recently asked my buddy to show me the chrono he was wearing and he handed it over.

Only once in the 20 years I have known him has he ever asked to see a watch I was wearing and it was an IWC chrono years ago.

He’s seen me wearing much cooler and rarer watches but never asked to see them and therefore not shown.

The OPs post is worded in a way where it seems like they’re flashing their watch around hoping random people comment on it.
