watch looks great!

but to be totally honest: all watches from ABC look the same and have almost identical chamfers.

It reminds me a little bit on the ladies with a nose job from the same doc. They all have the same nose in the middle of their face :-)

Definitely can't get enough of that watch. The way that crystal looks is one of the big reasons I love my DSSD so much, it's as close as you can get with a sapphire crystal.
Rolex doesn't make them like they used to.

Yes, but I feel pretty certain that all chamfers looked the same when these original watches left the factory, so..........

The chamfers changed dramatically over time. Look at an unpolished 6542 or an early gilt submariner and compare it to a late unpolished 1680.

And than look at this ABC watch:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...ban+RSC+papers

Same chamfers and cut on the lugs as on the 1680 in here which is pretty wrong for an early 5513 PCG case.

Ok, I will concede and admit that their was some change in chamfers between some of the different eras of watches, but I'm not sure I would call chamfer evolution 'dramatic' and the only chamfers that I can recall seeing that they have done have been on a 1680, 1665, and maybe a 5513. I hadn't recalled seeing an early 5513 done by them TBH.

Nobody is forcing anyone to have chamfers re-cut for that matter, and I can't recall seeing evidence of an unhappy customer from ABC with "incorrectly cut chamfers", so.............I guess maybe find me the experts somewhere worldwide that are cutting the correct chamfers for a given vintage based on the few "unpolished or unworn examples" out there. Maybe I'm just not as nit-picky, but I just couldn't be happier with the work they have done for me.

I did not want to criticize ABC - they are doing a fantastic job on their machines. Esp. on watches spoiled from an average watchmaker and his polishing tools.

But go to jaceks website and you can identifiy the watches which has undergone an ABC treatment without reading the text. 1655,5512,5513,1680,1675,... -> all the same look

Thats all I wanted to say.

So they did change over time? That's quite different from being sure they all left the factory the same. Of course the guy you were criticizing is 100% purist correct and even though you are happy as punch with your watches and don't care it was poor form doing that to him especially with the very diplomatic way he responded. Don't know either of you and am a 100% abc supporter but everyone must choose what they want and know what they are getting. If you like it great, but don't take a hammer to a purist for stating fact.

I just want to add...I visited ABC this past week and the guys there are some of the most friendly, down to earth watch people I've ever met. No egos and just a lot of knowledge. Beau chatted with me for over an hour and went over different polishing options.

While their case polishing might not be everyone's cup of tea, I enjoy the high quality work they do and the customer service is great to boot!

I really value places that take their time to listen to the customer, and especially with vintage pieces, respect what their customer wants.

If you're ever in LA, I highly recommend stopping by their store

Very interesting thread. i definitely prefer unpolished cases though. A few dings add character in my opinion. While ABC does amazing work reprofiling cases, ultimately, it's still removing metal from the case.

FWIW
ABC took care of my 1601 last month. They have my 1500 now. I'm sending them my 5512 next month.
Obviously I've been pretty happy with them.
