An update to hands so they are legible and provide contrast from the dial would be a game changer. Anything short of that will be just another illegible Daytona for me.

I see no reason for a Daytona update/enlargement, nor do I see rolex changing this watch for the foreseeable future.

42? No way. 41 maybe. The current Daytona is the perfect size IMO

42 mm circumference would be a tad small.

For sure. Probably just dial options only if anything.

Well, 42mm in a Daytona II could work. Keeping the current lineup would make sense based on demand.

why do some Daytonas have symmetrical lugs, and some do not ? As I am new to Daytona, but old to Rolex, I’ve always wondered this. |

Personally I’m not too sure as well. But I think other than the stainless and the full YG models, the rest are all symmetrical lugs. My guess is that eventually only the SS Daytona will have asymmetrical lugs as a homage to the original Daytona, while the rest will have symmetrical lugs. So other than aesthetic reasons I don’t see any valid reason to be frank.

It’s obvious (at least to me) that Rolex will one day evolve from an 11 Series Daytona to a 12 Series Daytona, just like they have done with other references (e.g., the Submariner line).
When, what, size, dial, etc., I believe is all speculation at this point … but fun to wonder / talk about. I have very little expertise in the Daytona line (I am on the waitlist for my first two) … but I own the last 3 series of Submariners, and am well educated in the evolution of that reference. Using the Submariner changes as a guideline to what may happen with the Daytona, I do not THINK the changes will be as substantial as a change to a 42mm … that seems like a big jump, for a watch size that is presently adored … but only time will tell. The Sub 11 to the Sub 12 Case size increase was only .5mm, but at a new measured 40.6mm enabling Rolex to call it “41mm”. The Bracelet increased by 1mm, both at the case, and at the clasp. The Dial and Bezel colors remained the same … the names of the colors may have changed, but no perceivable difference in appearance. My THOUGHT is that this pattern, of little change, will follow with the inevitable evolution of the Daytona … we will see. It is also so presently adored, that I could see no / to very little changes … the 11 Series “Maxi Case”, of the Submariner, was not a fan favorite to the majority, and the changes have been well received, and frankly justified, in the opinion of the majority (= sales). |
