I think if I went for a sub, it would be vintage. Now when money is no object to me, then I will have a sh'load of pieces, and a Sub would definitely be there.

Definitely not top of my list, but it's on there.

IMO, the Sub is one of the most classically beautiful and visually appealing designs in all of horology. As such, I consider it to be an absolutely essential sports watch. Here's my quartet.

116613LB

Nope. Not for me. Don't dive and never will (not that that matters). GMT is a must for ME. Fun and useful when traveling.

Not for me...yet. I think I am more likely to go with a GMT before a sub.

I hope to own a Submariner, but don't particularly care for the submariner date.

I think a 14060, 14060M, or a 114060 is important in a modern collection.

Every time I go to buy something I end up getting a Sub. So yeah, you absolutely need a Sub.

I love my Daytona. I think it's interesting, classy, and the perfect fit for my wrist. .... buuut I still love the Submariner Date, and I'd grab one in a heartbeat if the deal was great. I'm trying to keep my nose down and save for a Day-Date, though. AP has almost swayed me, too.

To me it depends what you mean by "collection". Some people may want to collect variations/vintages within a particular Rolex line and so if Submariner is not that line then no. However a Rolex Sub seems to be today's standard sport watch and will likley hold its value better than some others.

Yes, I believe it is a watch that any Rolex enthusiast must experience. Modern or vintage; it is a cornerstone in any collection.

Yes. The Sub and the Speedy Pro are the essentials for me. If forced to pare it down even further to just one watch, the Rolex Submariner would be the keeper.

For collection? Yes.
For the only one you have?
Not so much.
Go explorer 2 or gmtc for variety.

Ie: I gifted a gmtc LN & expressed to my pal the LN sub is everywhere nobody has gmt LN.
Now everytime we sit in a meeting and the other person is wearing a submariner I point it out to him.
*this is a Rolex forum when I said nobody has gmtc vs sub I mean civilians, not watch enthusiasts.

I completely agree with you. Every man should be required to have both of these watches even if he does not like watches.
