Both references are beautiful, in their own way. The thing I admire the most about it is the tiny changes have made a huge difference.

I'm yet to see one in person but from pics alone, I still prefer it's predecessor.

I own both black and white 116s, think the 126 dials MUCH better. The thin hour markers alone are a huge improvement, and the icing is the smaller sub dial rings - both serve to make the dial feel less cluttered and crowded, which is my biggest "complaint" with the 116 dials.

This is a watch I've always aspired for from a distance, the Panda in particular. It's somewhere on the way to my ultimate grail, a WG Sub or Platona (very much a stretch).

It took me a few minutes of looking at the pictures to decide what I like about the two different generations. I don't like the chunky crown guards on the new one, though I really like the bezel surround ring on the new one.

Since I've never owned or even worn either model, at this point, I'd probably be happy with whichever was more easy to acquire.

This ^ 100%.

Not just this video, but in general it really bothers me how practically all reviews of any watch, written or video, fail to mention some absolute basics.

When I watch or read a review I want to know -

1. The diameter (excluding the crown) - the actual values measured with calipers.
2. The lug to lug length
3. The lug width
4. The thickness
5. The width of the bracelet at the clasp
6. Whether the clasp has any form of micro-adjustment
7. Whether the bracelet is screws or pins

Obviously these last two are irrelevant to Rolex as we know what they are, but for other watches it's vital, and these should be standard practice for reviewing ANY watch IMO.

However, back on topic - I really like the new 126500LN. A LOT!

New one seems fine. I’d say it’s on par with prior gen. I’m still waiting for high beat movement before I’m a Daytona buyer though.

The Daytona is a wonderful expression of how there can be beauty in something that is never perfect. Something about them that always attracts your eye, until you see that one feature that you just can’t unsee. They all look good, but none are perfect (yet) to me. The 4 digits are close, though.

First one available in the uk for.... 37k. Surely Rolex can track down the flipper and AD on this watch?!

I like both, but actually prefer the newer one overall. It wears bigger/ better than the older one IMHO.

The one measurement I have seen …

116500 … 38.88mm
126500 … 39.88mm

I am anxious to put it on my wrist, and then I think I will know which to seek.

I own an 116500 Black, and would love to add the 11 or 12 in White.

My worry is that it falls into the “Super Case” look.

I shied away from the 11 Series Submariner for that reason, and waited on my 12 Series Submariner, that I love (the watch and the dimensions).

Could just be the pic, but the 12 looks to have a crisper dial. I wonder if they added an anti-reflective coating on the 12’s?

I believe that the 11 series had anti-reflective coating from the start in 2016. It could be the lighting and camera angle.

Question. Is the black bezel on the 11 series wider than on the 12 series?

It may be an optical illusion, do to the metal surround on the 12 series bezel. I like the 11 better, and here are my reasons: Based on the pics, the hour markers are thinner on the 12, the black portion of the sub dials are narrower, I prefer the shape of the 3, 6, and 9 markers on the 11. I don’t care for the metal surround on the 12 bezel. No need for it. Also, the 1 mm increase in diameter wasn’t necessary. I don’t see any improvements on the 12. I don’t much care for the modern Daytonas anyway, but if someone wants to gift me one, I’ll have the 11, please.

Kat

I agree with the concept of busier. I believe it's incrementally an improvement to the black one, but this could be due to bias associated with familiarity and liking of how the sub/gmt ii appears with a black bezel with stainless lip.

The one thing that stands out to me regarding the white 12 is a perceived imbalance between the subdials and the bezel, where the thickness of the 11's feel more balanced This is more apparent on the white due to the black/white contrast.
