I have a polar Exp2 42, I would buy a pelago for daily, so I don't have to baby it. Eventho the Exp2 is a rugged watch, it is still 7-8 Grand on your wrist. Knocking around with 7G, not my thing.

Between a Rolex and a Tudor, the answer for me is always Rolex no question.

Both are great watches, but you're not gonna get the heft of steel with the pelagos. If you haven't worn titanium before, try it out before you buy one. Titanium can feel a bit underwhelming because it is so lightweight.

I'm contemplating a Pelagos as well. I don't have the Explorer II, but I do have a Sub. If you can comfortably get the ExpII, I'd go that route. Even though the Pelagos seems rugged enough, titanium shows wear much more than steel, and the thickness of the Pelagos all but ensures it will be a magnet for all manner of bumps and bruises. I believe it's much easier to polish-out steel.

Not even close in my estimation. The Exp 2 Polar is top dog in this fight.

True. In fact, a friend of mine was taking his surfboard out of the back of his truck and hit his Pelagos on the tailgate. The bezel popped off, and he wound up sending it to Rolex for repair.

Nor do I, but if you go Pelagos I'd opt for the COSC in house movement. I'd also agree with those that think a diver would add some versatility.

Outdoors implies a tad rougher treatment. The Pelagos at a lower buy in makes some sense as does a ceramic insert and a rubber strap.

That is true. Never thought of it that way. I guess I have full coverage on my car and no coverage on my watch

I've got an Exp II and I love it, but I've also got it bad for the blue Pelagos. I love Tudor's lineup, and probably the favorite watch in my collection is my blue Heritage Chrono. For nearly the same price as the Exp II you can get the blue Pelagos AND a Heritage Chrono, a pair I would personally rather own over an Exp II. On the other hand, if you don't own a Rolex I can understand why the Exp II would get the nod.

Right, if you need a dive watch then the Pelagos is the answer. Especially for deep dives in a He enriched atmosphere. Perhaps consider an older EXPII for less cost.

Wearing mine today by chance...

I currently have the original pelagos and a polar explorer and the radial brushing is not as prone to scratches as most would think.
In my experience, the pelagos is a scratch magnet. the titanium case and bracelet scratches so easily, it's not even funny.

but with that said, the tudor is my go to watch when I go diving or head to the woods soley based on the fact that if I was to damage it, I wouldn't be so AGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think there's a true comparison here.....ExpII all day. If you're diving, then the truth is you are using a computer anyway and the explorer's depth rating is higher than what most of use would ever take a watch anyway..... IMHO

I'd try to find a beater 16570 for the same price as the Pelagos and call it a day.

The new Tudor movement can take quite a knocking about and stay accurate. Ti does scratch easily if it's not coated, but it should also clean up well with a polish. Yes, I'd go for the cheaper Pelagos and keep the Rolex pretty.

I have both, the pelagos is defiently lighter than the explorer, I'm currently wearing the pelagos on the supplied rubber strap and for working out in the gym so to me I think pelagos is more durable in my opinion !

If the Pelagos had "Rolex" on the dial, it would be the hands down winner on the forum! The Pelagos is my go to watch. I find myself enjoying it far more than my GMTC, WG Daytona or YG Sub!

The lumed bezel is awesome on the Pelagos!

This is what I initially thought this conversation was all about till everyone started talking about the 42mm Explorer II.

Hmm yeah the new 42mm explorer II vs the Pelagos, no completion, price, quality, look. A pre owned 5 digit vs the Pelagos, that is what I'd like to hear more opinions on!

I have had the 42 Exp II and still have the 40mm exp II...

The Blue Pelagos is an amazing watch, to see it in person is to love it.

The watch is seriously darn magnificent. If you haven't had the chance to check it out, you don't know what your missing.

If you want a GMT function, you can go "true" GMT watch with a bi-directional rotating bezel. If you want to dive (including desk diving ), you can go "true" dive watch with a uni-directional rotating bezel. If you want to compromise between GMT and dive functions, you can choose Exp-II with a fixed bezel. There is no wrong answer for choosing either one.
