Congrats on the upcoming engagement and wise move to stick with the ring. The Rolex will come later I'm sure.

Do you think she wants to show her watch to her friends or a big diamond?
Maybe you want her to say no so you can keep the watch? |

Get her an engagement ring and then as a wedding gift for the "something new" part,,, a watch,,, for all the "time" you'll be spending together.

She would have to be a complete watch nerd like all of us here to even consider it. But, how many of us would love a girl who would prefer that? It would be cool, but rare as hen's teeth to find a girl who'd like that.
Good luck Sir!

NO, NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOOO!!!!!! Women want the big diamond to show off to their friends. The more they can say, "My diamond is bigger than yours", the better off you will be.

I can just see it now - you getting down on one knee, and opening up the big Rolex box with a watch in it and asking her to marry you. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Do yourself a favor and take a long break from this forum. You need some perspective. |

I too have thought about this but have a Ring that has been in the family for a long time that my grandmother currently has she is going to give me. So I have decided to give her the family engagement ring and buy her a diamond dial datejust (36mm) also since the ring is a 'hand me down'.

A ring is for the engagement, a watch a great gift. So I'd say propose and get a watch at a later date, maybe during a getaway, once you set the date (so she can keep track of it), when she leaves solo on a trip, coming back from a nice dinner, special holidays, the anniversary of meeting/start dating, etc....congrats on a big and fun step in life.

Isn't that the truth? Even the most down-to-earth, common sense woman is lying when they tell you this. They may even think they believe this but when it happens they will take their rage out on you. This is twenty years of happy marriage talking.

FIRST TIME EVER that TRF has suggested buying something other than a Rolex!
I have to agree, go with the ring, get the Rolex for yourself! |

It's like saying getting her a car for proposal instead of a ring.
