As i have gotten older, i liked the cyclops even more. I am actually thinking of adding it to some of my other watches.

My Sea Dweller has a cyclops (installed after purchase) and I can tell you that when placed next to a Sub Date, the magnification and focus of the date is identical. The thick crystal has no noticeable affect.

Not true. See my post below.

i think for the SD and Deep Sea, it was more because of the depth rating... at serious depths, maybe they feared the cyclops might fall off perhaps?

I wonder if it would be possible to ask Rolex to fit a new anti-reflective cyclops to the older sub date?

I never liked the cyclops that much, but had a niggling feeling to get a sub date. I tried the seadwellers a few times at AD's, but eventually got the sub date LV. Looking at the above pics it is hard to decide if I like the sub without the cyclops. On one hand it doesn't look so cheap and tacky a cleaner look and easier to read the date without, but on the other hand it just seems to look right, it just fits.

I think the cyclops has become a Rolex icon.
