Well, I authorized and payed for the restoration and they say 6 to 10 weeks.

I was really torn about refinishing the case, dial, and hands as these parts are revered in vintage watches. In the end, I decided to have a full restoration done to bring it back to it's original glory.

FYI - Two of the weeks of restoration are reserved for regulation, one week with the movement outside of the case and one inside the case.

I'll update this again when I get it back.

Oh, I just had a devious thought. Instead of getting rid of my other clocks, I'll set them to GMT!

I was just talking to a friend of the family. His passion (obsession) is Naval Clocks/Military clocks. We spent a while discussing them. I know nothing about them, but found his stories interesting.

Yours look awesome.

Tim, your clock looks amazing as they did a fantastic job on the restoration...and now you will have many years to enjoy it. I just went back to the front of this topic to see the before pictures and it almost looks like a different clock compared to its return.....enjoy!!!

I love them. I have the clock, barometer, and the radio room clock. All great pieces and much history. My barometer dates circa 1920's. 1930's for the ships bell clock, and 1940's for the radio room.

Very nice, I'd love to have a barometer and radio room clock!

Here is the certificate of origin for the movement:

The case has a different serial number (325248) but it was also purchased by Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company in March of 1943.

Here's a video I made with my DSLR with the clock striking 8 bells. Sorry for the soft focus, this was the first time I tried video with the camera.

Hi All, just thought I'd update this to say what an amazing clock this is.

I have it installed in my office and when I'm in bed late at night or early morning, I can hear it when I'm half-asleep and I know the time without fully waking up.

It recently started running slow, about 5 minutes per week, so I've been adjusting the micrometer on the dial. I think I have it about nailed now at +1 minute per week again. It's mounted on an outside wall so I figure the cooler temperatures are futzing with the regulation.

Thanks for reading...

Thanks guys, when I'm in my office I can hear the gears of the clock engage to prepare to strike. It's like a living mechanical object and I'm honored to wind it every week.

That is an awesome clock and a better story. The restoration is amazing. The difference in the dial is night and day. We have a pretty high dollar Ridgeway grandfather clock that we inherited from my father in law sitting in outer entryway, lifeless. It was thrown in the back of a pickup truck in its back and delivered to my house (not good from what I now know). We are waiting for the holidays to pass to get a repair man out to fix.

Well, my regulation issue is still not resolved. No matter what I do the clock is still running fast. I have the micrometer on the dial almost pegged on S (slow), moved in increments over several months, and it doesn't seem to affect the regulation. It also has been constantly stopping before seven days have elapsed.

I just reached out to Chelsea requesting a service since it's still under warranty.

Will update this again when I hear back from Chelsea.

Tim

sorry to hear about this. I think I'm do for a service on mine as well. After a full wind the bell rings super fast for the first hour. I've actually let it run all the way down before and I got almost 8 full days.
