I suppose it depends on what you think would bring you the most happiness over the next few years; having a lesser car and a BLNR or having a more expensive car and no additional Rolex in your collection (or some other combination of getting the BLNR and car and letting some other pieces go)?

A cheap car will get you from A to B and a cheap watch will tell the time so you should make a personal decision based on your own happiness.

From what you’ve said, it’d probably get the car you want and also the BLNR then sell some of your existing watches

In this situation with this watch,...........you buy the new BLNR. Its that good and it will haunt you if you don't.

1. Buy the BLNR
2. Drive your current car a few more years
3. Sell PAM to accelerate 2

Totally agree. My priorities when it comes to "wants" is to buy more watch and less car. But, nothing wrong with it if you would rather have a nicer car.

The one thing I will add however, is in 15 years the car will likely either be rotting in a junkyard or being driven by trash. The BLNR however, will still be a nice watch and just as cool as the day it was when new.

Buy the watch and a less expensive car. Its the more financially savvy move. Let's demonstrate.

Buy a Lexus IS300 for $38,000. After 5 years it will be worth $19,000. (BMW, Mercedes, Audi have even worse depreciation.)

Buy a Honda Accord Sport for $28,000 and a BLNR for $10,000, spending the same $38,000 as above. After 5 years the car will be worth $15,000 and the watch conservatively will be worth $8,000. That's a total of $23,000. You are better off by $4,000 than if you bought the pricier car.

(Use Edmunds TCO online to gauge deprecation and expenses of a car.)

Will you sell the PAM to cover the cost as is highly recommended or switch down on the car?

I’d take it and flip the Panerai or Datejust. or Speedy. You have options if you want it that badly.

Yes the watch is rare and yes you could always sell it quickly and likely for a profit.

BUT I am normally very financially conservative. I would never buy anything that had the slightest impact on my finances. If you don't have excess cash then don't buy it.

My advice is plan for your future, with savings, investments etc. Wait until you are doing well before indulging in such things.

Your post doesn't mention investments, cash reserves, kids, family, house etc. All those things come first.

I wouldn't let a BLNR that you really like go. Sell off the PAM or Speedy. Easy decision. Those are easily replaceable anytime.

Oh yeah definitely. I’m not gonna buy a watch if I can’t pay my mortgage. Definitely got the future in mind. It’s disposable income. And I’m not draining savings in order to buy it.

Tough decision or is it?

I actually decided to sell some shoes off. Have multiple pairs of the same shoes (yeezy, and jordans) that I actually don’t even really care for as much now. Guess I went from a shoe head to a watch type a person.

Its funny you mention this. I work with a guy who recently picked up his first automatic watch and I can see him getting into watches. Previously his infatuation was sneakers. Sneakers can get CRAZY with rare and expensive styles. There is a whole subculture based in sneakers.

And you thought WIS guys were crazy!

This. Assuming you were going to pay cash for it otherwise financing options are better new.

OP, congrats on a good call. I had a bit of a wait, but got one from my AD and couldn’t be happier (wearing it now)!

This watch won’t depreciate as hard as a car

A subculture of shoe nuts? What a bunch of weirdos! Why would anyone waste so much money on shoes!?!

Anyway, OP - definitely pick up the BLNR if it's still there!

Edit - just saw you got it. Congrats!!!

Originally I was thinking a BMW or Tesla but after much thought was leaning towards a Lexus. We already have GX460 but needed a car for me since my 04 Accord gave out on me lol. Now it’s looking like Honda or Toyota, more reasonable and less expensive than the previous options.

My AD asked me back in April when if I wanted to be put on the list and I said why not (done through email as well). Never thought I’d get the call. Goodluck on your wait as well. How long have you been (im)patiently waiting?

A Honda or Toyota is sensible. Like someone else said earlier, a car is a depreciating asset whereas it's possible that your watch may appreciate in value--at the very least it likely won't depreciate as quickly as your car will.

Now had you posed this question on a BMW forum I'm sure the response would have been to buy a Casio and get a 3 series.
