I have one at the moment, but I'm saving for another (OP 36 in steel). I also have four Omegas, two current, two vintage, and I'm saving for a Moonwatch. I think we watch folks tend to buy what we like and can afford, but speaking personally, I want all of my watches to look different from one another.

Collecting is a broad term.
Some will collect multiple variations of one watch, I.e Daytona's.
Some go for style such as only chronographs with black dials.
Some go for GMT watches.
Rolex is clever as they have a diverse range with a lot of options.
People quote "land, sea, air" and go for that.
It's honestly how you feel about the passion you have. It's more important to me to have a little back story behind each piece, rather than worrying about if one watch is too similar to the other.
It's through the eye of the beholder we create our collections.

2 Rolexes is absolutely fine, I thought having 2 of the same model was a bit much tho but then I bought my second Subc so that's out of the window too, better to go for what feels and looks right to you rather than abiding by a set of arbitrary rules.

Probably what you and others don't want to hear but....I bought a new Sub' in 1986 and for the next 25 years never wore anything else. My desire to wear any other watch...nil. It was only when I stopped wearing it that I tried other makes. I bought an skx007 seiko, moved on to a Doxa 750 ( useless) bought a seiko Tuna ( great dive watch) then another Tuna and then an MM300 (another great dive watch) but.......all in denial that I really wanted to wear another great Rolex.
I finally decided that enough was enough and bought a DSSD. To me, lover of dive watches since the age of 7/8 when my grandparents bought me a Timex diver, it's the ultimate dive watch and I'm now back in that space I was for 25 years where I think there really is no point in wearing anything else. 2 Rolex? for me at least, I'm completely happy with one and probably the last one I will buy for myself.

Surely you could use a stainless steel diver or GMT if that Platona needs any work done?

Some interesting responses here.

I think about the question of multiple watches all the time, and I'm always experimenting around with my collection to get that "perfect" mix. I feel like I'm closer than when I started, but still not there yet.

As far as what brand, I don't worry about overlap as long as it's a watch I like. Which happens to be mostly Rolex at the moment.

I own what I like. 8 Brand A, 9 Brand B, & 2 Brand C. Not well rounded considering all the great brands out there but I'm happy and that is all that counts. I've only traded one watch & that was because it was very uncomfortable. Just didn't hit the bone on my wrist right.

Naturally I see nothing wrong with having more than 1 watch per brand.

Great choices in your collection!

Nothing wrong with owning more than 2. Many here do. I have tried other brands and always seem to come back to sport Rolex. Also tried several dress watches and always come back to sport Rolex. But that is just me.
Currently just have 4 sport models. 3 vintage four digit models and 1 five digit model. Next up is my one and only modern piece, but it will be another Sub (116613).

I now own only two "fine" watches, one sport Rolex and one dress Rolex, and I'm thinking about trading my current pair for one precious metal Rolex. Alternately, I might just trade one of my current pair for something with a little more "bling." But ... I'm old enough that I now think about significant new purchases as the last of my life. My age, middle of my eighth decade, definitely colors my decision processes. Hence, my opinions and choices are not always in agreement with those of the majority.

Having two watches is a pain in the butt, really. When I only had one watch I used to love my watch intensely and never had to worry about not using the other watches. I guess love is monogamous and sex promiscuous; therefore so much confusion.

Hi Glenn! Thirty, two, one or none is all the same as long as you're happy. And remember, if they are the same they count as one, or at least that should be the case if the wife asks.

If you see a watch that you truly like, go for it! That applies to anything in life really.

No problem owning a few...I just bought a polar explorer to go with my black face explorer and have a few other rolexes in the mix (DD40, GMTII etc). If it fits in your collection go for it!

I see nothing wrong with owning multiple of the same brand. I may be biased as I have the BLNR, SubC, BBN, and a Tudor Sub... But to balance it out I also own other brands.

I'm thinking about the Tudor black bay eta to kind of even out the collection. I would consider my self a collector/passionate watch person even if I have 2 pieces at the moment. So what are your thoughts on having 2 Rolexes in a collection. IMO I don't like it. But I completely respect people that do and can see the reasoning for doing so.

Hope everyone is havings a Happy Holiday season!

All the best,

I used to collect a lot of different brands (omega, bulgari, vacheron, cartier, etc.) and moved to an only rolex colection.... to each his own...

Nothing wrong, virtually any modality is valid reasoning, I can understand collecting daytonas or subs for instance, I like having some variety but only on rolex, I believe I found my brand, but it took me years to get here... still, I might include a PP for instance in the distant future...

I thought i was a "sub only" then I found out that I really enjoy GMT's, vintage and modern are nice in their own right... then Got to know Daytona's and realized its a fantastic movement, wouldnt mind dabling more... so... discovery is part of the journey...

Do your thing! And enjoy!

Currently own 1 Rolex, 1 Tudor, 1 Panerai, 1 Breitling and 1 JLC (not counting the vintage Omegas and Hamiltons).

My next will be another Rolex, 95% sure it's going to be the Hulk. Originally I thought I wanted brand diversification, but I've slowly realized what kind of watch I truly like. Would I like a Patek, AP or any piece from other high end brands? Sure, but I now know I like tool watches, and there's something about the ones with the crown on them that just move me.

I'll never get rid of the others, as they will all be passed down to my son eventually, and I'd like to think (hope) that he would appreciate the different watches that his father owned.

For me, no need to have other varieties for variety sake
This is exactly my thoughts right now.
I love the modern look, feel, toughness and comfort of Rolex sports watches.
Here are 5 I will be rotating for a while (taken today)
So yes by all means have more than one

I'd suggest that most of us do not start out thinking:
"I'm going to buy a half dozen Rolex watches over the next decade or so, and they will be 'A', 'B', 'C', etc."
We buy one, and then another, and it goes on from there.
If you did it with a firm 6 (or whatever) watch plan in mind from the outset, you might do it differently.

No problem for me to own 2 or more Rolex(es) in the collection.
But if you feel uncomfortable to see your collection unbalanced, go for what you're happy to buy. IMO, GMT ceramic and 114060 sound like a great combination.

For me there is no other brand with such a diverse range of good-looking models past and present. There's only a couple I want from other brands.

I have four and am seriously considering flipping my BLNR (never thought I'd use that 'F' word! ) for another Panerai.

To each his own. You have to have a collection that makes you happy. Who cares if you have more than one reference from a given brand in your box
