Hotels safe in the rooms are not to be trusted really, and security and surveillance in many hotels in e.g. Spain and France are simply not top standards. Furthermore, street theft in places like Madrid and Barcelona are very high. It is not worth putting you and your wife in danger by flaunting an expensive time piece.

Now, if you are only staying at top level 5 stars hotels, private beach clubs and having drivers take you to high-end restaurants, then you have less to worry about, but for me places like Madrid and Barcelona are about getting into the local neighborhoods, staying out late, having tapas, finding a nice flamenco club, etc - and you are much better off doing that without an expensive watch or your wife wearing too much bling.

Personally I'd bring that Panerai or a simple ss Rolex, not worry about it and just enjoy th food, culture and scenary instead.

(PS, I can share stories about being attacked by street robbers in South of France, having hotel safes broken into during my wedding in Madrid, etc)
I hear you and thanks. I would certainly like to get out and about in Madrid and Barcelona and not be overly worried about theft. Let's see, need to think it over. Insurance is comforting.

Even if you are insured and there is no actual "loss" I guarantee your trip will be ruined if you got robbed or your safe was pilfered. And I don't know any insurance company that can replace a ruined vacation.
Thanks. It certainly would not be a good thing to get robbed. On the other hand we/I love watches and they are made to me worn. When on vacation is when I most enjoy these beuties, just a shame to have to leave them at home....

3) Fill out a 4473 Customs form (you have to go to their office with the items to verify serial numbers) before you leave and this proves that they were in the US before you departed and that you are not liable for duty on your return.

With all of the above bases covered, I guess you are pretty much good to go.
Thanks for these tips. I had not thought about your third point above. Will think about it, but does seem like a bit of a hassle...

To answer your question; I would not bring anything more than your Yachtmaster, but only because ease of travelling and avoiding custom troubles. Security in the better hotels are up too par, no worries about that at all.
Thanks buddy. Looking forward to this little trip; should be a lot of fun.

I travel with one, usually (GMT II or Explorer II). Have traveled with two and simply carried the second one with me, in my backpack or carry on.

Beware of the US Customs rules, though.

Just the one you're wearing, Thomas. I hate to be a kill joy, but I wouldn't travel with any more than that.

Let's see, I believe you have a fairly nice GMT that could track the differences in time zones if I'm not mistaken...

LOL! Woops! I used to be in that business so got my form numbers switched in my head. You are correct, it is the 4457 Customs form needed. It is not that much of a hassle really, just a quick drive to the airport customs office. Ten minutes and done! Much better than trying to explain why you are traveling with 50K in watches to an overzealous customs officer on your return!

Take two then you can wear one on each wrist...that will add to all your other trophies in the picture...did you know you can get a necklace for your BMW key too - looks great worn outside your shirt. Make sure you pack a shirt with an outside breast pocket to put your pen in , it would be a shame not to be able to show that off.

How about a louis vuitton passport cover...thats would really round things off...

...Im obviously jesting with you but seriously...conspicuous consumption for all to see may well be asking for trouble and I'd suggest "less is more"

Enjoy your trip.

Paris is a nice place to visit but lately we face issues with watches jacking.

As a parisien, I'm wearing my Rolex, Patek, Omega on a daily base but never in an obvions way.

Some tourist area are very well known for their pick pockets and you should just be careful the same way you have to be in big cities.

Never had any issues so far and I'm travelling around Europe all other the year

Personally I do not. I am not concerned with wearing a timepiece wherever I go but I don't bring multiple. Generally there is enough other stuff to do and it jus has not been a concern for me. Really a personal call but why not IMO.

Love the LV wallet by the way I have the same

Never had any issues so far and I'm travelling around Europe all other the year
