go for it.

I just bought my first sub a few months ago. I been thinking to get this watch for more than 2 years. when i got the watch, I regret that I should get this watch sooner, before the price go up. Rolex is a watch you get wear for life time. Go for it if you can afford.

Nope! The Stainless Submariner is such a classic watch. It's sporty, and goes with everything! It will be my first Rolex. I need to find a job as fast as I can, so I can buy one. The prices are going to be insane in 5-10 years.

Buy a quality watch as soon as possible, so that you will have the rest of your life to enjoy it.

Guys! I want to thank everybody for their comments. I am buying it my hard earn cash... I work 16 hours a day, I started a business not long ago and well, it's been going good so far, so I felt like why can't I reward myself if all I do is work hard every day, even on weekends?

I agree with RyanJames on that when you later get old and grow a family you might have to prioritize differently when spending money in things like this.

I really first thought that 24 was really old, but having read lots you of guys around my age that already have one, I guess I will just go for it!

By the way, my friend's father has a rolex that his parent left him when he died, but his father doesn't use it. I don't know maybe because of this he just doesn't realize about how nice these machine are... but just about the money/social aspect of wearing one.

Hopefully by next week I can post the picture with the Sub on my wrist. I am pretty excited already!

Cheers! and thanks again to everybody who replied!

24 years old?? Definitely too young. Send your watch to me and I'll wear it until you turn 30.

FWIW, I always wanted a Rolex and could have afforded one a year out of college with my first investment banking bonus. However, instead I wrote a nice check to my parents as a gift for what they had done for me.
Something so frivolous as an appreciating asset? I've seen money spent a lot more frivolously on depreciating ones. Good for you for writing a check to your parents. As a parent myself I would not expect my child to do anything like that. My reward is much greater than what you could give me monetarily.

I wouldn't necessarily call a luxury watch necessarily an appreciating asset. I certainly don't expect my watch to increase in economic value. It's a luxury item I just wanted. No hiding it. I wanted it and got it. But, I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that it is some kind of prudent investment vehicle.

In terms of my parents, you're right that it was nothing they ever expected nor wanted to accept, and it was only a tiny fraction of the money they'd spent on me over the decades. However, it was more of a gesture/promise to them that I would do whatever I could for them when I finally got out on my own supporting myself.

Edit: I only offer up the above anecdote not as a hater but just to give pause for thought. FWIW, I don't think that there's any right age for a Rolex, just a right moment or period of one's life. Only one can determine for themself what that appropriate moment in life is.

As long as your in a good financial situation, not living at home with your parents and can afford it, I'd say no, you're not too young.

If you can afford it go for it. Just be aware of your "friends" and cautious about who might have access to it when you are asleep or not wearing it. Desperate people will do desperate things and that kind of $$$ may be enough to push a desperate acquaintance over the line.

Cheers!

I say it depends on the person. When I was in high school in 1986 my friends dad bought him a Rolex for graduation. He just bought his son a Rolex Milgauss for his 16th birthday.

So I say it just depends on how responsible the person is. And, if you have more money that you have sense, go for it I say!

Nope, I bought my Rolex around 25. If you want it than go for it. Also, if you wait until 30 the prices will only keep going higher and you may regret not buying one at 24.

It's all relative but keep this in mind:

1. If you're wearing a watch at 24 that costs $5000, you better have the rest of your life's priorities in order because the watch represents something to those that see it. A.) a self indulgent child that has warped priorities, B.) a very successful young man that has treated himself to a luxury he can afford. Make sure the rest of you leads to the correct conclusion.

2. I bought my first at 23 but it was 3% of my annual salary and I owned my home and car outright. I'd suggest you really prioritize your finances and indulge when you feel you are ready to treat yourself. Nothing looks worse to employers and clients than a man that mismanages his money.

Whenever you decide to buy, the watches will still be here. It's a special moment in one's life when you drop that amount of cash on the counter and buy a luxury good. I hope you continue to achieve all the things in your life that make a Rolex a small token of the larger you that speaks to excellence and achievement.

Just a question but what does living at home matter if you can have a Rolex? I have 2 good friends that still live at home with their parents at 25 and are in a lot better financial situation than most of my other friends.
