Everyone knows what Pepsi is
Everyone knows Coke
Everyone knows Rootbeer (not everyone likes it though)
Everyone knows Kermit
Everyone knows Hulk
Everyone knows Batman
Everyone knows Wimbeldon
Everyone knows Pikatchu (though I only recently discovered it’s apparently a Daytona variation)
Everyone knows Paul Newman
Everyone knows Starbucks
Everyone knows Sprite
Everyone knows Guinness

But who or what is a green lantern?

I secretly hope for am orange and magenta bezeled GMT to which I can apply the sobriquet "Dunkin'". Or even better, the "Double D"

The Pepsi is the only nickname that should exist IMO... all the rest are a big fat no.

“Starbucks” has two syllables, “Green Lantern” is unnecessarily longer.

Nicknames are shortcuts to references. We Americans are lazy. I hear “Paul Newman” more and more being abbreviated with “P.N.”

“Batgirl” owners tend to hate that GMT’s nickname. But it has stuck because it is shorter than “Batman on Jubilee.”

I love these conversations… I bet you guys refer to your cars exclusively by the VIN, and the iPad you type out your replies on by the IMEI number .

Kermit is a fun, cool character, as is the Hulk. Starbucks will never be cool. And don’t get me started on John Mayer.

I dont mind a nickname, but it does help when talking about a watch on a forum post without pics, to be able to identify the watch the OP is talking about.

I still have no clue.

Every hobby has gatekeepers and jargon. It’s an attempt to make oneself feel special by making it difficult for newcomers. Everyone knows what a Pepsi is. Beginners have to Google it. The nicknames increase accessibility. Those who don’t like them apparently have or desire zero whimsy in their lives.

Or they want to make themselves feel even more special for knowing reference numbers, which come to think of it, is probably worse. So lighten up everyone, and indulge in some fun.

Now on that specific one though, who is this lantern guy anyway? What’s he doing at Starbucks?

this might be the first time I've seen an OP both ridicule nicknames and then also propose a ridiculous nickname

Green lantern for LV sub

I don’t really care for the nicknames either. I call my hulk an 116610LV, and I prefer BLNR etc
