No issues with my 4 and 5 digit clasps. My father's DJ36 clasp has been operating flawlessly since 1978, he wears the watch daily.

How durable are the five digit clasps?

My 16600 and 16710 clasps are tight and secure, never had any issues. The Rolex stamped clasp with the safety catch was used for years across many sports references and has stood the test of time and extreme conditions. As long as they close firmly and the pins are in good shape, they're rock solid and reliable.

Yup, a lot of the complaints you hear from people just equate the heft of the new bracelet to improved durability.

They also complain, but fail to remember what the MSRP was of the watches that these bracelets came on. These weren't $10k watches.

Right now I’m wearing a ref 1630 and I have no problems. It snaps when I close it.

Old thread but my 16710 clasp isn't holding as tight anymore. The initial fold over isn't holding for some reason but the secondary fold over clicks and holds tight. Anyone else find this? Not sure if it is a simple fix.

It's simple. Just a matter of lightly flexing one of the blades (but not sure which one and which way...)

That’s a cool ad.

I note that the “authentic Rolex bracelet” was $15 more ($195 instead of $180 ). I wonder with what they were sold if not the bracelet?

The metal just bows out slightly and gets loose over time. I use to fix mine just by sort of forcing it against a desk top or something to bend it back. It would work for a bit but always tended to loosen back up. Eventually they fixed it for good during a service. I’m assuming they just heated it and bent it better than I could.

I had a Daytona Zenith on my wrist full time for 12 years. Now and again I had to bend the folding parts to regain clasp tension but that was it. The daytona doesn’t even have the butterfly closure of the subs/gmts. No worries.

They are durable enough if you can find them in 4 digit watches.

I wore a 14060 almost my entire four years service in the Marines and bent it twice. The first time was pretty bad, but I straightened it with pliers , the second time was also pretty bad and close to the same area so I had RSC repair it.

Granted, this was not what I'd consider normal wear! I'd say the test of Marine Corp Infantry and only sustained a bend but not failure is pretty darn good.

I've only had my 16570 for a little less than a year and a half. I bought a glidelock for use in the summer. The six digit clasp is heavier and feels more substantial. By comparison, the five digit does feel flimsy. But, that is misleading. It is definitely lighter. As everyone above has said, the five digit bracelet/clasp does the job well. And it does it unobtrusively.

That being said, during the warmer months my wrist does swell and shrink throughout the day. So, I go with the glidelock for the summer.

No problems on any of many dozens of Rolex I’ve owned (and been temporary caretaker to, as I trade around). Many were from the 1960s and 70s.

Bought my Sub Dec 27th 1989...wore it solidly for 22 years. Original clasp still works fine. Loads of diving, skiing and general abuse, still works fine. The strap is a bit “bendy” now. Once Rolex opens up again I’m going to get a new strap and clasp about £950 and put the old one in the box and keep it for posterity.

My 1675 is a matte, radial dial, daily wearer. When it is time to take it off, I have to give a good tug on the clasp to get it off!

Hasn’t let me down yet. Of the 5 digits in my stable, the clasps range from very tight to easy to open.

The watches themselves were built lighter too (non supercase case) and the clasps and bracelets weren’t asked to do as much IMHO.

I've owned several 5 digits now. They do feel flimsy, rattly and feel kind of cheap but they are very strong and sturdy.

If you pass your 5 digit to a guy that has never held or seen a 5 digit I will almost be certain they will think its a fake watch. LOL - its happened to me many times.

This one is 50 years old (watch is 52) and I see no reason it won't go another 50. Rolex mattered in the 60s and 70s and where lives depended on toughness and accuracy it was usually Rolex they turned to. British MOD, US Navy Seals, French Navy, PanAm Airlines, COMEX. Flimsy? Weight was the enemy, the old bracelets are marvels of design and engineering, obviously.

Will the new SuperLube slide clasp last 50 years? Fortunately, no one's life depends on them so it doesn't really matter, if it breaks Rolex will happily sell you a new one.:)

Never had any issues with the clasp on my 1996 14060...it still closes with a satisfying snap and click after daily use for 24+ years. In fact I've never had any issues with my watch at all!
