“Classic or future classic” is code in car circles for portfolio diversification and drive it for free.

996 for me. Excellent looking cars when they were new, and still a looker in this day and age IMO.

No. It’s pretty funny. I laughed out loud.

Rich, sorry for the hijack.

I still vote Porsche. But no matter what your decision, it’s going to be awesome.

I’m certain.

If you go 996 it has to be the turbo or nothing. Otherwise 997

I’m not sure how this missed your list, but a Daytona deserves a Daytona...

Now the only problem with that idea is the ~$1 Million you need to mate the Daytona’s

Here are my classic (Lotus seven S3, 1968) and future classic (1998 Lotus Elise S1 PTP 165 HP prepared for the track) cars.

Only 340 Lotus seven S3 were made. There are more S2, although not easy to find either.

I recommended an Elan of the 60's or 70's as a classic Lotus, because it is far more practical than the seven.

Cayman S is a great handling, great looking car, and far more rare than 911s or Boxsters. I started out looking for one and ended up with a 911 Cab. Cayman interior just felt a little claustrophobic. Well, not that, but tight. It's a better Porsche "value" and a great, fun car if you don't want a convertible. The bae model (this was 5 years ago) was a little lacking, even though I am not a horsepower fiend. S was very, very nice!

I like attention. And this gets plenty of it. I can’t go anywhere without multiple thumbs up and people making comments.

It’s exotic. Looks super special. Ludicrous to drive. Sounds incredible. And is pretty different from everything else. You can get a super low mileage example for 100k. All the bells and whistles.
I saw one yesterday that looked like it is specd like yours....it has one hell of a presence on the road! Looking good. For a minute I thought you were visiting from NJ.

Yes, I agree. I’m not in need of speed,...so to speak.. I’m a coupe guy, for most cars. HP is always nice, but I don’t go to a track, not in need of a speed adrenaline rush, etc... The car handled excellent, was comfortable for me, felt just solid :)

Why not find a classic Porsche 928. Great V-8 and only in production for a short time. Suppose to replace the 911 but we know how that went.

Those are both pretty, but for some reason, I think Swiss Daytona => German car. And more specifically, Porsche. And more specifically than that, 911. I'm joking, kinda.

I hear ya! Can’t decide if I like the styling cues of the 911 or Cayman...both sharp!

I say the 911 is most in sync with the Daytona in that they were both born around the same time and have evolved similarly over the last 50 years. Cayman is a beautiful, great handling car! Really, you should get the car that you most enjoy, not the one with a similar "history" to one (or two) of your watches.

One criteria to decide: can you be satisfied with only 2 seats, or would you sometimes need the +2 advantage of the 911 over the Cayman?

I would stop at the last of the air cooled handmade Porsche’s and go 993TT. For me there is nothing like an air cooled turbo Porsche! I had a 930TT and a 993TT and they are amazing. If you can find a low mile, well cared for and pristine example I’d look no further.

A few pics of my 96’ 993 had only 8,000 miles on her and fully optioned out.
