Depends on how much you’ll lose on it in depreciation over the course of a year. I would imagine you’ll likely want to trade the car in that time frame once you’ve “scratched the itch”. If it’s only 10-20k you may only need to offload one or two watches to compensate for the depreciation? Also, the m550 will take a pretty decent depreciation hit! Which by the way is an amazing car! I bought one a couple of months ago and love it! Kinda wish I had held off and waited for the M5 although except for a rear diffuser it’s not that dissimilar!

If I NEEDED TO SELL my watches to afford to buy a Porsche (any Porsche) I would certainly not do it.

Yes, but I have one in Ultra Violet. Also, have the .2GT3 RS and GT2RS coming. But my car addiction is worse than my watch addiction.

If you make it to NY/NJ before you decide, you can drive one of mine and I am sure that will make up your mind.

Answer is pretty simple:

- If you think your Rolex is an investment: No
- If you think your Rolex is a hobby: Yes

Have fun deciding!

YESSSSS . A GT3 RS will probably exceed far greater value than your watch if that's what you're concern.

It's your decision...do what makes you happy.

So you basically want to trade all those watches that you can enjoy every day plus a 2018 BMW for a car that you'll only going to drive at the weekend?
I wouldn't.

Best answer. At the end of the day, make the decision you find worthwhile.

^^^This is it^^^^^. I am a 27 year Porsche 911 owner and PCA chapter founder. To say I love Porsche is a safe statement. The issue I have with selling off your watches is that they are unrelated to what you are buying. If you want to sell off a few other cars for the 911 then that makes sense to me. Porsche and Rolex are a luxury lifestyle and one should not be needed to support the other. The sensible solution is to dump the Benz and buy a similarly priced Porsche. You can have your Porsche, join a local PCA club and get the full effect of Porsche culture.

They're both expensive hobbies. As long as you can fund either with ready cash, do the one you will enjoy the most. You can always go back and forth (at a cost).

I would vote for no.
After selling all watches, a modern day luxury saloon and parted with cash you have a Porsche.
Than the worry starts, insurance, taxes, gasoline, maintenance ...
(owning and buying a supercar isn't that hard, but keep it rolling is.)

Why not? Those are nice watches, but easily accessible if you ever wanted any or all of them back.

No, though that's a very respectable price for a '16 RS. With the intro of the .2 RS .1 prices have been coming down.

Sounds like you are giving up a lot to make something happen. I personally wouldn't because I would miss my watches. Perhaps get a lower level Porsche and enjoy both? You can always upgrade later.

You can't buy everything with an eye towards value retention, but I understand the significance of it with respect to very high end purchase decisions.

I had a 2014 991.1 C2 I loved the car. I owned it for about 18 months and when I traded it, I took a big $35k hit. The funny thing is, when I looked up the VIN a few months ago, some dealer was selling it at the same amout as the my traded value. After that, I only want to get a Porsche GT car as they are more special and retain the original value the best. A GT3 is probably more in my price range, but a GT3 RS is my ultimate dream car (GT2 RS is possible). I am 88% sure that I won't do it. Just want to hear what you guys think and hoping to get majority "No" answers to talk down that 12% of me.

Fastmd, Thank you much for the offer. The car I saw is actually Ultra Violet color, too. You must be a super VIP at your dealer.

My passion for my Rolex collection is second only to my passion for my car collection. That being said, if the question is would I sell my watches so I could afford to purchase the car, I would say no.

If you are asking if I would give up my collection for a GT3, my answer would still be no. Even though I own a Porsche I'm not really a fan of the car. It was my wife's dream car in high school and I purchased one for her about three years ago for her birthday.

Now, if you throw a Bugatti Veyron or Chiron into the mix and the deal is you can have the opportunity to purchase one, but you have to give up your collection and never own another Rolex, let's just say I'm driving a new automobile!!!!

Good luck with your decision.

I would definitely not do it. How long were you planning on keeping the car? I love watches more than I love cars so if I had that kind of money to spend, I would love to buy a vintage Paul Newman Daytona.

OK, my first serious post of this thread. You bought a '14 991, owned it for 18 months and took a $35k hit. You own an '18 M550 and are mulling trading it in. You are, at least for entertainment value here, considering selling a bunch of Rolexes that you got in the last year to 18 months. You might want to consider how to determine which expensive, luxury purchases will make you happy in the semi-long term. The current state of Rolex supply/demand and your great AD relationship helps you retain value on your watches if you go in and out. But that won't last forever, and the cost of flipping six (or close to it) digit cars is almost always going to be very painful financially.

So my advice is to figure out what will make you happy for more than a brief time, and then execute the plan that will get you there.

Awwww...That's too bad. I was just about to tell you're blessed and lucky so make that dream into a reality. Just do what you love in life but if you think you're not ready so be it.
Say...Did you know if you purchase a GT2 RS, you're entitled to a little gift , a 911 GT2 RS chronograph timepiece from Porsche ?Ok..Ok... The last 0ne's not free. It's available on eBay🤦

No. No great interest in cars. Too many expenses and with today's traffic and rules you can't have fun anymore (nowhere).

No way.

The thing about a car is, you barely ever use it. Something like the GT3 is not a good DD car, you don't want to really commute in it; despite the lift you're going to scrape it on everything which is mildly irritating.

My watch I have with me at all times, I can look at it all day whenever I want instead of looking at a picture of it.

PCAR-wise I originally bought a C2S, then I sold it and went for a C2. About to sell wife's Boxster S and get a Chevy Colorado ZR2.
