Literally went and tried this on today.
Torn between the 36 and 40mm. I want the 36 because it's the purist's choice and this is, in my opinion, a purist's watch if you're a longstanding fan of rolex. That said, its SO small on me. BUT the 40mm dial has a little too much real estate on it, but fits my wrist proportionally. I'm 6 ft 185lbs. Quite torn on what the best move is here...kind of hoping someone talks me into the 36 honestly lol.

You are right about the 40 not being as well proportioned. Too much empty space on the dial. Get the 36. You will get used to the classic size very quickly. Thankfully, it’s not a concern for me. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I thought time only pieces had no place in my watch line up but something about this watch tugs at my subconscious

thanks
[QUOTE=KatGirl;13227262]I am so sorry for your loss. Also, thank you for your service. As for the watch, absolutely loved mine, but gave it to my youngest son recently, (he talked me out of it) and I miss it. So, I’m on my AD’s list for another. I should have it by Summer. I’m also a retired RN, BTW.
Kat Thank you....I never would have joined the army reserve but I needed the money plus it would look good ....all the training for "free" until I was called to active duty....all I could think was "what the hell have i got myself into?" I cant talk about it even 30 years later. Back to Rolex....my everyday is a 36mm tt DJ plus a GMT coke. Im large at 5 ft 10.....199 pounds so 40mm fits me fine |

I can understand that. Oncology, and med-Surg was my thing. I would not be emotionally equipped to do what you did. So, kudos to you. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Best watch in the line up pound for pound.
By far. I’ll never get rid of mine. 36 is the right one. The 40 is a compromise. |

I think it’s one of very few modern Rolex watches that maintain the legacy of the brand in a good way. I’m torn at the moment between a 36mm Exp 1 or a more blingy 36mm Datejust with the green dial for a change.
I was intrigued by the new grey GMT for 30 seconds but I really want a classic 36mm for my next watch. For the GMT complication I’m much more intrigued by the new Tudor. |

If only BB58 GMT didn’t have these gilt accents but just pure silver. Though the watch world seems to be divided on this topic. bibbi |

Congratulations, the Exp is one of my favorite watches, so comfortable I can wear it for days and days. It is tough, rugged, yet elegant with a suit. One of the best GADA watches! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

I was thinking the explorer was too simple and boring.. but as the years passed and I get older things has changed, the likes and the meaning of things have changed and one day I tried the explorer.. after trying I said that’s the right thing for me.. I have 6,5 inch wrist and 40mm sit well on my wrist and I ordered it.. and absolutely it’s my only love..daily wearer..

The Explorer watch is so classy. I often find myself imagining how cool it would look with a jubilee bracelet.

I’ve also come full circle on this one. I have an extensive collection and something just clicked with this one recently.
I have a 6.75” wrist and I’ve tried both the 36 and 40. I’m comfortable going with the 36. My only hesitation now is hearing others say that you won’t wear your other watches once you own it…I know, tough problem to have |
