Why buy a gold Rolex when you could have a steel one + a gold PP for the same money?

First new Patek at age 57. 5140J

Actually my first was a used 2588J (1960's vintage) from my father-in-law's law partner's estate. Age 56. Created a monster. Many since then.

That was the same trajectory that I was going. TBH the only PM Rolex that I would buy is the 116618 gold sub with sunburst dials.

My advice, however unsolicited, is for you to go AP asap. The finishing is gorgeous and it gives you a completely different feeling when wearing it. Everyone knows about Rolex, but AP is for the trained eyes, you simply can't go wrong with 15202 or 15400, it's orgasmic!

Great choice on the Nautilus, this is where I am at now waiting for my 5711 at 30. You'll inevitably flip a couple of pieces as your palate becomes more refined, don't rule that out completely mate. I used to be mad into subs but traded in my TT sub C for TT YM2, now I am thinking of flipping my TT YM2 as it comes across as somewhat meretricious, but I am still contemplating.

Anyway, you've done well mate, hope you have a brilliant collection to pass on to the next generation. I trust you will.

I get the impression that the guy who got one at the youngest age wins the thread. Congrats whoever you are. Foetusus need not apply - until they get an internet connection, that is.

29, purchased a 5146g, no reall plans to pass it down, might trade it into a different watch in a few years if I loose interest, but for now it's a keeper.

I was about 20 when I first had the aquanaut. Back then, omega and patek much is pretty much the same to me. Fast forward 6 years later, I kinda wish that I took care of it better.

I agree, it's amazing that 20 and some year olds are getting 5167's or Nautiluses, quite nice, until 40 I just had 3-4k watches, got my first Rolex at 41 and got hooked from the moment I went on TRF...

Yeah that's the problem when you have 1 or more high end pieces, some here have amazing watches but still wear Rolexes, for me AP and PP really killed the brand, had nice ones too, black and green sub, BLNR and RG Daytona ceramic bezel on strap, wasn't wearing them, I just couldn't wear them in rotation, same for Pam, I always wanted to wear my 2 Nautiluses and after when I had sold the 5726 I wanted to wear only the AP and 5712, they all left as I hated them being in the bank safe, figured better for someone to wear them...
