Some RSC do laser welding, most still do not as it is not mandatory yet. I suspect it will be a worldwide offered service in some years time.

Great work and also impressed how these replacement parts are still available to bring a watch back to like-new condition.

What year is this Oyster? I've wondered over the years how my '55 6284 might look smartened up but that's surely pushing it :)

Is the mark on the inside of the lug a reflection or an actual artifact from the welding process? I'm just wondering if this technique could be used for a visible part of the case or if the repair itself would always be visible in some way.

It is a slight dark bit left from the welding, it is a fraction of a mm deeper than the rest of the inner lug surface and filing/sanding it down would be bad for the case and create space between lugs and bracelet.

I could have spent another 1.5 hrs to add more material in that spot and file it down, but decided against it since it is so minor and 100% invisible with the bracelet on it.

Totally makes sense, thanks for clarifying. One other question... earlier it was asked if all RSCs had laser welders and you said some do, but not all. I have always assumed you worked at an RSC (versus an AD or independent repair shop) and it kind of sounded like you confirmed that with this statement, but I didn't want to read into something

The real reason I ask is because I have always read that really old watches will be refused for service by RSC and a person must seek out an independent watchmaker. If you are in fact at an RSC, can you shed any light on the parameters here? For example, I have a 1974 GMT. My brother has a 1956 OP. I had assumed that I could not send either of them to an RSC for service. Is that not true? Or does it just depend on which location and which exact year/model/issue?

Thank you!
