I thought the Nautilus design was presented to Patek by Genta in ‘74 and released by Patek in ‘76?

Possibly, although would be strange. As I say, I will validate and revert back.

Although I should say, the year wasn’t really the point of the lesson for me.

Details like the year of release for Nautilus will be picked up in a Patek subforum like this. I will also be expecting questions from the AP folks if I said my friend has a 1970 Royal Oak.

I've often thought about a BY watch, the Nautilus is not possible but a RO 5402 would be.

Did your friend have any sense of how popular and enduring that model would become?

And rightly so, no issue with it. I’m intrigued myself and as I’ve said, I’m expecting to meet up with him again in a couple of weeks so will be trying to find out more about the date.

Not at all, it was gifted to him by a close family member on his 18th birthday.

Absolutely. Watches are meant to be worn. As long as you use them, the scratches and marks are memory of its relationship with you. Just don't intentionally abuse them

Apparently the Nautilus was first made in 1974 but not for general sale until 1976. Given the grief I’ve had over this, I thought I should do some research, and I found a few examples online with paperwork to validate it.

Haters still gonna hate, no drama.

One of the examples I found...

But here’s the lesson, it had clearly been worn as a watch should be worn. And it was all the more cool as a result! Brother, I am prepared pay you $1,000,000.00 USD in certified funds in the next 12 hours if you sell me a 1974 Patek 5711 unique prototype

I have more than one Pledged TRF Member prepared to vouch that my offer is legitimate.
