Wrong.
It’s the only Omega watch which keeps its value pretty good.

I've had both. Loved both. Wore both for many years.

But the Exp is still in the collection and the speedy is gone. That's my experience.

My Exp is 39mm, not 40, but pretty close. The speedy I had was the sapphire sandwich.

Good move. Don't just "settle" just because you "got the call". Wait for the one you truly want.

Definitely wait for the Sub. Don’t compromise. I went through the same thing back in 2018. I could have gotten an Exp I immediately, but waited and got a Sub about 5 months later. Best decision I made re: my watch collection.

Currently, Rolex is widely produced on the market. How to distinguish genuine Rolex?

My two main daily watches are a 3861 sapphire speedy and a 36mm 124270. I think that is the perfect combo. This doesn’t answer your question at all, I’m just sayin I like the speedy better than the Explorer 40.

If you are planning to establish relationship with the AD, you would buy the Explorer. The Speedy will be there whenever you want to purchase. In fact you can now get the white dial version if you prefer. True you can get both on grey market, but I think buying the Explorer makes more sense in the long game.

If AD relationship don't matter to you, then I'd want to know which speaks to you more. If everything being equal, then it's a matter of what else is in your collection. Do you have a GADA watch already? if so, Speedy. If you don't have any Rolex yet, and this will be your only watch, then I'd go Explorer 40.

Looks like I’m in the minority, but I’m going Explorer. It’s a great all rounder IMO.

Thought of getting a Speedmaster a few times (still do honestly), but every time I put one on, I just don’t like it as much as I think I do. Cool watch, but I just don’t think it’s as good all around as an Explorer. I guess it depends on what you use it for.

Edit: Nevermind… missed the most important post.

I absolutely love the Speedy. I have two of them. That being said, a standard Speedy is very easy to get, even at an AD. No purchase history needed. In fact, you can get one from an AD with a discount.

Getting a Rolex allocated to you from an AD is a whole different story. If you love the Explorer, and you aren't just setting for it, and you see more Rolex's in your future, then get the Explorer and get that purchase history started with your AD. You can get a Speedy any time you want down the road.

Exactly what Dave said. You can get a Speedy anytime. It depends on your collecting goals.

I'd easily pick the Explorer without doubt. Suits my personal preference in just about every single way.

I'm glad you are waiting for the sub. That's a good choice, too.

Huge Speedy fan so that would be my number one. Then I’d save for an Explorer I in 36mm. Explorer in 40 is just wrong in my view.
I wouldn’t get the new Speedmaster though. Prefer the 1861 or 861 models (hesalite). The new bracelets are awful.

Agree to disagree. I love the new Speedy bracelets. Different strokes for different folks.

Get the explorer. As a daily, the speedy manual wind can be a pain especially if you forget to wind it. It’s a great weekend watch, while the explorer makes a perfect daily you can go anywhere and do anything with. That said, I am still a speedy fan.

Unless you want it to slide under a shirt cuff. But yes, they all have their place.

Had all three.

Love the speedy but not the WR or the manual wind.

Love the sub but a bit shiny and worried about the new movement when it went in the minus.

Love the Explorer but think it sometimes is a bit plain.

Only the Explorer remains out of those 3 as it is very comfortable and about as low key as it gets for a modern Rolex. Will probably get a 14060 as love the submariner. Don’t currently own any Omegas or have plans to do so.

Bought my 3861 SS for 6K after discount in 2021. Grey's offering me 3.5K in trade. I could probably sell it for 4K and change considering I lack a broad platform where I'm trusted.

I guess it depends on pretty good. Better than half, but not great.

Contrast is very high, dial is certainly more open.

The 12 series Daytona I think goes some way to improving legibility slightly although alway thought black sub dial hands would improve things further.

I have the 35th LE Speedy. I like the Panda dial but with the silver tone hands it is not the most legible. I love it anyhow.

I would go for the explorer. You put your self on the wait list.
I too have the speedy and exp II, but there is something about the Rolex feeling.
There is no list for the speedy. When you get the call, take it ☺️
You do not mention if you have other watches/rolexes
