I bought a pre-owned Panerai once that came with box and papers and the original purchase receipt with the original purchaser’s name and address. I googled him out of curiosity of course even though it felt a little dirty. I found my way to a picture of him on social media wearing the watch which was kind of fun. But I’d have bought that watch anyway without the receipt and the whole experience just reinforced my conviction that nobody I sell a watch to will ever get documentation of my identity beyond the bare minimum required to execute the transaction.

For instance, I've bought and sold many watches with friends. And we simply craft a bill of sale and attach the transaction receipts. And then submit for insurance so we don't need to worry about losing the watch. But if I read your advice, "forget all that, don't worry be happy." Did I understand you clearly? |
