Here is the other one. Aftermarket bezel and dial. I wouldn't probably do that again. I like the new watch with all factory dial/bezel but this one is still very lovely and tons of compliments on it.

It's all preference. I like diamond bezel more than no diamond bezel if it meant two tone versus all gold. Clear as mud?

Does your Pt President have a factory diamond dial and bezel too?

I like Pt over WG, but like someone else said, WG is no sore loser.

My platinum watch is all factory. Diamond bezel and jubilee diamond dial. I totally love it and love that I can get it serviced without hassle.

My two tone was considerably more affordable with the custom bezel versus factory and honestly, I think just as lovely to my laymen eyes. At the time I didn't know much about Rolex so never thought about it until buying the platinum one and finding these forums. With that said I think they're both gorgeous.

The only thing I don't like is not being able to get service on the aftermarket watch because of the bezel. I have the original fluted that I can put back on for service but it's a hassle.

I would never want anyone to feel bad about factory versus custom. It's all what you can afford and actually what you think looks pretty!

Like different rims on a car or adding racing stripes! Go with what you like.

Go platinum! I tried these DD40s on yesterday...both are oh so nice!

And one with the Platona next to them (sorry it's sideways).

Great pics, thanks for posting. Think I just have to try in person, unfortunately no AD's carry around here, so I'll have to take a road trip. Chicago's not too far!

I've seen a couple bring up that the weight of platinum is too heavy - is that a real concern?

WG will always be an alloy. Basically you take YG and add white metals to make it sort of white. In the end it's a "fake" of fabricated white metal.

Platinum on the other hand is purer and whiter. There's also the extra weight which is appealing to to some people.

just for clarification purposes....

a "President" is the name reserved for the day-date model, you don't have a platinum president, you have a platinum datejust.

the bracelet, which is not how we refer to our watches, is a president style bracelet.

Platinum! Just became proud owner of a Platona! I initially wanted a PT DD40 but having zero regret as I am loving the sportiness of the Daytona.

Not sure if you're asking for my model number or not but it's 69146 if you are. Yes, it's the date just with a President band. Sorry! Still learning.

The weight isn't an issue and I got used to it pretty quickly. It is surprising how it makes my other watch feel like a "toy watch"....only in weight and not in looks. Both are really pretty!

+1 !!!!

All the gold mined in history would barely fit in two Olympic-sized swimming pools.
And all of the platinum mined in history would just fill this average American living room.

http://thevelvetrocket.com/2009/10/2...-in-the-world/

Took me three weeks to get used to the weight !
It's really heavy !!! 31% more than (750) 18K gold.

Yes, I was trying to figure out which model that is, as I've never heard of that... Please not, I know about as much about the woman's Rolex's as I do woman's make up (basically, not a lot at all, lol).

Thank you, it's def a beauty! If it was 42-43mm, I'd wear that myself, diamonds and all!

For me they both just imitate stainless steel anyway so I wouldn't bother with either but if I were to get one I would stay with white gold

Depends.....

I have a WG DD and just picked up (today) a 34mm Oyster Perpetual. I really like them both for different reasons

The nickname is a bonus too....sugar daddy IIRC?

I don't have the exact specifications but there's a substantial difference in weight between the Platona and the PT DD40. After trying on both references and ultimately deciding on the Platona, the best comparison would be akin to wearing the WG Pepsi versus the SS BLNR.

I'm intrigued by this. How come the metal is not lost through scratches? Does this mean that you can polish platinum without losing some of the metal?

I ask, not because I have a platinum watch, but a platinum wedding band...
