The biggest mistake I made was not buying 5, 10 or 20 years ago. With the prices beating both inflation and salary growth, that would have been a wise move. Of course in 5, 10 or 20 years we will probably be saying the same thing about present prices.

I'm on my third Sea Dweller, all three Z serial.

Sold the first one and made $800.

Bought another and kept it for two years. Sold it for a $1200 profit.

Just bought another because I regretted selling the last one (two months ago). Found it BNIB at an AD, and this one isn't leaving.

Did something similar with a COSC ND Sub...on the second one now, but gave it to the wife, so now I can't sell it (without catching A LOT of grief).

I've sold and bought back the moon watch four times. I've just sold it again to fund a DJ. I don't think I'll be buying it back again unless it's the sapphire sandwich. I didn't really like buffing the crystal every time I wore it.

never sold a great watch...

I have a different approach, which I plan to maintain:

-I sold all of my my 50's / 60's military watches for a good profit.

-Now I have one Rolex- 16800, soon I will have two, then possibly three at most- none of which will be sold, just handed down to my son when my time is done here...

Too many I have lost count... It is a hobby and all in good fun so I do not worry about money lost here and there. I have made money on some, lost money on others and in the end I am sure I have lost but it has been a hell of a lot of fun

I haven't sold a watch yet and don't plan on doing so at all. Hopefully I won't need to in the future.

Bought and sold the Explorer II, 16570 (white dial) twice!

Starting to regret selling the Sub No Date, 14060M. If I bought (2nd hand) the identical model today it would cost HK$5,000 more.

I had to sell my SD due to personal problems, lost about a 1,000. Had been saving ever since I sold it, can wait to get another one.

Last year I flipped this:

for this:

Very bad mistake! I greatly disliked (hated even) the poorly designed bezel, the almost invisible "fourth hand", and the PCLs.

Fortunately, I was able to undo the flip and trade the EXPII for this:

The classic GMT.

Fr John, you are heading in the right direction but you are stil one flip from nirvana..... The "classic GMT" is a vintage 1675/16750 Pepsi! Come on over Fr., the dark side is not bad at all for you will know it is the right side because of how it feels when you get here....

All the above aside, great looking GMTII....congrats. It's interesting that you and I left the Omega fold around the same time. I have just gotten to vintage Rolex a bit before you Fr. But.......I have faith in you.

Can't do Pepsi since I was born in the Coca-Cola city of Atlanta and have two degrees from the Coca-Cola school, Emory University.

As for Omega and Rolex, my collection is fairly balanced between the two at the moment.

And I do have a vintage Rolex, an 18k bubble back 6050 from 1950. It was a gift from a friend last Christmas and has a double connection to my church affiliation. It came from the estate of a gentleman who was instrumental in the construction of the National Cathedral in DC and whose ancestor was the first Anglican bishop consecrated on US soil.

Never happened to me. I sold about 8 watches, never regretted one single.
My main problem is all the watch I missed, due to lack of immediate money funds !!!
For instance, I missed the PAM 127 aka Fiddy when sold new, because it was too expensive for me at that time...
Happily, I'll be able to grab a Fiddy like watch very soon, I've just ordered the brand new PAM 372 !

It's happened to me plenty of times..

Never really lost any money though becauuse I always buy at the right price.
Maybe lost $100 here or there but have definately made a lot more money on watch sales to make up for it.
