I have heard from my AD, that, for example, the new ceramic TT Submariner (currently RRP in the UK £6,470) will be hiked up to £7,000 (including the reversionary VAT increase).

Moreover, he feels that Rolex will use the VAT adjustment, resulting in reprints of all UK brochure price listings, as a reason to review UK pricings generally. Hence the expected top-up over the VAT.

Although nothing is certain, apart from the VAT, he expects the further increase to occur in early 2010 and more than likely at the same time as the VAT.

Bad news for planned purchases next year.

If you've got your eye on a new Rolex and can afford to buy now, I'd say get it bought before the end of 2009.

I assume this will mean the pre-owned market will also see some increase. I better find a good deal soon.

Wow - love the graphics on that ad.

Where's that from, somewhere in Quebec maybe? I'm just guessing based on the combination of dollar pricing and French language.

Also it's from the day before the US entered World War II, but it looks like they were already in the war in the city where this ad ran.

No idea where the ad was from. I searched Google Images for "Rolex Advertisement" looking for something and I saw that. It really popped out at me. I liked the graphics as well!

Remember guys it take 12 months to make a oyster but owing to the forthcoming expected price rise. This now has been extended to 18 months in keeping with inflation. And its possible later in late 2010 to be exaggerated further to 24 months per oyster to justify this rumoured price rise.

Icon9 Gosh....

If this proves to be true.....then the ROLEX gray market and TUDOR gray market look even better for buyers in the USA.

We will see just how well this price increase sticks. If it ends up like the domestic market for photo equipment then the price hikes will be a JOKE!

With the global economy so weak I doubt this works at the street level.

We shall see.

So far I’ve purchased 6 Rolex used. I have always wanted to purchase one new. Unfortunately prices keep going up and outpacing my paycheck. I may never get the joy of purchasing new.

How would this make the used market better? Higher prices on new pieces means more buyers out of the new market and in the used market buying up more of the pieces. I would think it would raise the used market as well.

It helps the used market in that the value of watches people now hold will go up. It doesn't really help the buyer.

X2....

I have read various articles in many different newspapers over the last 1 1/2 years about the luxury watch market and they all were saying how demand for high end watches, including Rolex, is down due to the economy. Not sure what Rolex is thinking if they truly are raising prices in this bad economy. Believe this price increase when Rolex themselves announce it.

Agreed! as much as i love the brand they are not immuned to this global crisis
no matter how many reserves rolex claims it has if 40% right now is happening in a major city like chicago i predict up to 50% off by spring 2010.

No pun attended.

I just talked to my AD in Manila. I was told they had a price increase last Dec.1. Inspite of this, I was told that I could get the DJII steel/yellow gold two tone at US$8500. Is this a fair price if compared to the average price in our next door neighbors, HK and Singapore?

Of course it's not official until it happens but I have heard there will be a 5% price increase (at least in the USA) in January. From a credible source...

I have not heard of anything for the US but it may serve to prop us their "exclusive" and in demand image. This is probably a 3 prong strategy of limiting supply, increase price, and introduce new updates to products.

Taiwan just increased Rolex prices in early December.

I know it's a lousy market for luxury goods but this makes sense for gold and TT models anyway, at some point the increase in gold prices has to filter through to anything made of gold.

That would put the DSSD @ $10K

Good luck to Rolex with that. The AD I was in yesterday still had some Z serials in his case and 2 ladies with Y serials.

I stopped in at my AD in Downtown, Toronto, Canada.

I asked about a Canadian price increase and my sales-lady confirmed that there would be an increase in the new year. How much she didn't know, but she said she was surprised seeing as Canada just had one this past April.

My AD had pretty much all of the Professional models in stock and in the display case.

She whispered to me that they did have a SS Daytona black-dial in stock in the vault. No one was in line waiting for it. Price was at MSRP of $12,000 some odd Canadian dollars. NO DISCOUNT.

However, anything and everything else in the display-case was open to discounting. As I wasn't buying, I didn't ask how much and on what models.
