I like to think that Bond might be a two watch kinda guy, but the literary Bond was fairly spartan in the way he traveled. So, prolly not likely that he would pack a dress watch (even though he had a tux?!?!). It would likely be one watch that did it all. In the books, he was a military man. His boss was a military man. MI6 was in essence military. So the watch would have to be something likely to be military issue, or designed for the military.

That said, probably wouldn't be Rolex, but I would defer to the Brits on the forum. What is the current military issue diver in the UK?

The British army's current issue military watches are from CWC (Cabot Watch Company) CWC hold the current M.O.D contract and are registered ISO9001-2002 a requirement for military watches to the British Forces. CWC have been supplying watches to the British military for over 30 years. They also supply the Royal Airforce, Royal Navy and Special Forces units. However the MOD has also issued until recently the Pulser G10, with some models still in active use in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pulser G10 - whilst an alternative to the CWC G10 did allegedly have some quality issues.

I think some sort of dive watch is appropriate for the character, given that he was in the Royal Navy before Mi6. a Digital watch is unlikely, since in both the books and the films Bond prefers some of the finer things (because he enjoys life, since he never knows what day will be his last), and is very particular about what he uses (specific brand of cigarettes, etc). So IF NOT a Sub or Seamaster, perhaps a CWC royal navy issue diver, or a Victorinox Divemaster 500, or a Sinn U1.

Im sure that in the Fleming books, bond wore a Rolex Explorer. And the ND Sub in the first Bond movies belonged to Cubby Broccoli.

It was probably a white dialed Explorer from the 1950's so it looked good with a tuxedo as well. The first book was released in 1953, so it pretty well had to have been an Explorer. Maybe something like the one I had on yesterday

In today's lineup, he would probably wear an Explorer. The Submariner could always be provided with his dive kit when he needed it.

Personally, I'd extract from Ian Fleming to come up with the following:

Breitling ... Superocean Heritage 46
Hamilton ... JazzMaster Cushion
Omega ... DeVille Hour Vision (black dial)
Rolex ... Explorer (I)
Seiko ... Grand Seiko
TAG Heuer ... Link Calibre 5 day-date

To be honest, some of these were "least common denominator" picks, as I'm inclined toward very simple dials and Fleming's rather unkind words about complications as expressed via Grant's watch in From Russia with Love.

"Vintage" is impractical: He'll simply lose it and then we're back at square one!
