Try one of the options given above that can't hurt the piece!

Another easy way is to view it from the profile...the acrylic will bend the light and look 'thick' and domed, where as the sapphire is flat.

Acrylic is more presure-ressistant than christal, however it is vulnerable to scratches. The other way I have heard to tell the difference is to drop a few drop of water to the surface. The water drop on the acrylic will scatter while on the christal surface they will remain as water ball shape. I am not sure if this is correct.

Anyone know if you can add an acrylic crystal to a modern watch like a Sub from the 2000's or even a newer Sub c? Just curious...
