Isn't that the truth? Even the most down-to-earth, common sense woman is lying when they tell you this. They may even think they believe this but when it happens they will take their rage out on you. This is twenty years of happy marriage talking.

Biggest mistake you could make man. An engagement is something special and although she might like the idea of a Rolex it won't be for this occasion. You'll know what I mean when you look back and say.... Good I didn't do that.

We all love Rolex, but you gotta go with a big ass diamond ring. Or maybe a normal diamond ring and a watch the moning after the wedding?

How many females frequent this forum? Watches attract much smaller numbers from the female audience

Believe me diamond rings are the way to go.

The female is a dangerous creature when upset, who knows what could happen

You will categorically have to buy her a ring anyway. I proposed to my wife with a sapphire ring and still ended up buying the diamond! No way a watch would come close in her eyes.

Definitely buy yourself one though. It worked for us. My wife got the ring (well two actually) and I got a watch.

ring is definitely necessary! - Unless she specifically has said she doesn't want a ring (but this would be a first...)

watch as anniversary present (possibly 1 for each of you after 1 year!)

"Crazy" doesn't even begin to describe the insanity of that idea. After you're married you'll have a zillion opportunities where you can "dare to be different" in your personal battle vs perceived cliche's, but this situation is absolutely NOT one of those times. She probably has plenty of jewelry she already adorns her wrists with, don't dare to leave her ring finger bare.

Diamond ring, period. If she were some kind of non-traditionalist that wouldn't like the "cliche'" due to some activist reason or something, believe me she would have already let you know.

The beating we gave you is nothing in comparison to what she would have given you!!! Get her a Rolex as a wedding present instead.

I just got engaged myself, to my original fiancee (we parted ways 28 years ago, married different people, divorced, and reunited ... Long story). Anyway, she likes watches, but she wanted the diamond solitaire ring. I asked her if she would like a plain wedding band and a watch for a wedding present, and she said no, she wants diamonds in the wedding band as well! That's fine with me (my job is to make sure she is happy with what she sees when she looks down at her hand). So I figure that a watch can come later. And she said to me, "It's a pity that you don't get something nice to show that you're engaged too."

So I'm getting a Rolex for myself!

Congrats on the upcoming engagement and wise move to stick with the ring. The Rolex will come later I'm sure.

Do you think she wants to show her watch to her friends or a big diamond?

Maybe you want her to say no so you can keep the watch?

Get her an engagement ring and then as a wedding gift for the "something new" part,,, a watch,,, for all the "time" you'll be spending together.

When my wife proposed to me she brought me directly to the jeweler and she choose the ring. I think she did make herself clear...

She would have to be a complete watch nerd like all of us here to even consider it. But, how many of us would love a girl who would prefer that? It would be cool, but rare as hen's teeth to find a girl who'd like that.

Good luck Sir!
