That Laurent Ferrier is a gorgeous piece. The movement is stunning

Absolutely.
Yes, that is the big question. Especially for the LF as they are both newer than Journe and considerably more expensive.

Own an 1815 up/down and really love it. If I was going chrono I'd probably flip the up/down and go for the 1815 chrono. Best bang for buck for a manual chrono in my opinion.

You can have a plain 3-hander or multiple complications like retrograde date, hemispheres moonphase, etc.
Very interesting case/lug design too, so a bit novel and different from the typical status quo.

Definitely interesting, but not sure I love the hands. You really must see the Journe and Ferrier in person to appreciate the craftsmanship of the case and the intricacy of the movement finishing.

The chocolate dial or the one I originally posted? Yes, the movement is quite special...

Are you in Northern California? There's a Laurent Ferrier dealer at the Rosewood Hotel called Stephen Silver. Really great people

I usually don't like to discuss prices as it's really a personal thing, but I must mention that the LF is around the price of a Patek annual calendar. I'm still quite surprised about that and gives me pause.

Totally different watch! The LF is completely handmade and they only make 150 watches a year. As you know Laurent Ferrier spent 38 years at Patek and starting as a watchmaker. I really like what they are doing and reminds me of Philippe Dufour years back.

PS. Patek AC's are everywhere and common so nothing special IMHO. How many LF's will you see in the wild or on this forum?

Again I chose Lange GL1 MP myself but perhaps some day will add an LF. I have my eye on new Galet Square in SS once it is released.

You are of course correct. I guess I have to undo my "nothing beats a Patek for sustainable value thing". Independents like LF are really in a class by themselves and need to be approached that way. I just don't know what you do if you ever want to sell it.

I also am reminded of Dufour. But I will confess I never quite understood the extent of WIS fascination with him. The Ferrier I posted is quite unique and I think I like it more than the standard Galet. The bregeut numerals on the cream-opaline dial. The contours of the the case remind me of the 5205 and the depth of the movement and the sublime micro-rotor...

Journe might be too similar to my chronometre bleu. Different color of course, but very similar dial layout. And the Lange...well the Lange captured my attention from when it was released but I am still hot and cold on the dial asymmetry (particularly the dead space under the moon phase.

For me I wanted one watch from Lange 1 family and find the GL1 MP to be perfect example from the family. It maintains the classic asymmetrical look and adds some beauty with the special moonphase. That is what Lange 1 is all about. I love the cold Teutonic look of the platinum MP and my runner up was the Stealth. Anyway all good options and quite different. I'd take the LF over a 5205 all day long though no question. Good luck in your hunt and with these options you can't lose!

Go for it. A fantastic watch. Flipped an IWC 5001 (too chunky) and couldn't be happier. Long power reserve and indicator is an added bonus.

The comment was about your OP but if the chocolate dial was an option I think I would lean more towards that. It's a tough call for me. Your original option is just simple beauty

Can't get the chocolate dial yet. But I particularly like the opaline dial as it's less dressy and has a certain vintage aesthetic to it.

I own and LOVE the FPJ CS so I'm biased there.

I've handled the LF - amazing piece but was just a little flat for me vs the FPJ.

The Lange 1 is a modern classic of course but on the wrist it is way too thick for such a dressy watch.

Actually the Lange is quite thin at 9.5mm. I think the case design gives it a more informal feel though.

The CS is an incredibly beautiful piece and the new dials are quite special. What do you mean by the LF being flat? Lacking dimensionality? Dial color?

Yeah I know Lange lists it at 9.5mm or so themselves just sits like a much thicker watch. Though it is thinner than the regular Lange 1 if I'm not mistaken, so that's a plus.

And don't get me wrong the LF is amazing, really like the dial but when splitting hairs the simple printed dial wasn't as interesting to me as some others.

Yea, I hear you on the printed dial. The numerals version is printed but I particularly like the look it lends the dial. The Lange wears big, like all Langes. The strap is stiffer than average too. If I didn't already have the chronometre bleu I'd definitely go for the CS but I think he dials are too similar.

Understandable. It's why I won't get a bleu (yet anyway ;) Either of the other two are unbelievable so its a win-win

Lange has the best combinations with grey dials IMO, these 2 are great
