as for the Odet review, that could have been any rolex model. a rolex isn't drastically different inside from one model to another, they're basically LEGOs. cases might be different but the bracelets, dials plates, case backs, and movements are mostly standardized. he was just giving an opinion and happened to set his sights on an icon.

Thanks guys! It was quite interesting to see the change in public tastes in just a few short years, from being one of the hottest watches on the planet, to something "too small" and almost forgotten. Glad to see the 36mm Explorer is still loved here.

Thanks Joe. I totally agree. I already my cal. 3000 Sub when I read the review, and in terms of mechanical accuracy it killed my other watches. So I really took that review with a large grain of salt, and it didn't phase me at all. I was surprised how big of a deal it became. I still wanted the Explorer anyway after reading it but it was like impossible to get.

Thank you very kindly sir, it means a lot. Just hobby. I'm finding it quite fun to shoot watches. So many good photographers on this site, it's very inspiring. Still lots to learn about lighting and whatnot. I use mostly micro 4/3. I really need to learn how to get better with my mobile camera. I can't take a mobile wristie to save my life.

I never cared much for the Explorer, but have been increasingly drawn to it this year. I picked up a 114270 finally and think it's totally badass.

I'm with the OP on the Explorer. It's a sharp timepiece. I also prefer the 36mm to the 39mm incarnation. Just my personal taste.

Beautiful watch! Probably the most versatile watch in the Rolex lineup. Excellent history as a sports watch, but equally at home with a tie and blazer.

I've had a 114270 and now have a 214270. I'll pick up a 14270 at some point. The clean simple lines, clear dial, and black face are just bad ass.

Fantastic, I have the 14270 later 1991, lug hole case and love it! Great pics awesome watch. I'm so tempted to get 14060 sub....the flesh is weak! Congrats!
