F P Journe is the definition of a watchmaker.

And you can buy his watches now, while he's still in his prime.

It's amazing, really.

It's a very tough choice and you really can't go wrong with either. I have the 1815 up/down and I love it. However, I also love the F. P. Journe, and have considered it as my next purchase. I have asked myself if I would swap the 1815 against the C. S and the answer has been: No! I really love the silver colored dial and the numerals on the 1815. However as always, buy the one that talks the most to you.

I voted for ALS because of the specific Journe reference OP is considering. Now, if those CS 40mm gold dials can be an option, I'd go FPJ hands down.

Personally, it would be the Journe.

The CS is one of my favourite pieces.

I also struggled with this decision (in my case it was the chrono bleu). I tried on both several times and they are both fantastic watches. I ultimately went with the chrono bleu only because it was a bit more unique, I liked the movement better, and it wears sooo well on the wrist. However, if I had bought the 1815 instead, I'm sure I wouldn't have had any regrets...hope this helps :p

I recently had this exact same dilemma, though I was looking at rose gold cases. While the FPJ is a fantastic piece, I went with the Lange. After buying the Lange, I sat it down next to the CS at the Journe boutique to look at the movements side-by-side, and while the FPJ has more depth to it, the Lange stood out to me. I'm very, very happy with the 1815 up/down.

I think the Blue is a more unique piece (that dial!!) and hopefully I'll own one some day.

Def the updown for me. I love Journe but my preference is for the ones with the time sub dial on the right and comps on the left. Such a cool aesthetic to those pieces.

After seeing both at the store yesterday... I must say that I would go with the FP Journe.
ALS is amazing but just a bit too austere for me.
As other said, the FPJ is more playful, whimsical, poetic and exciting than the ALS.
I do also feel that buying one while FPJ is still at the helm will prove invaluable in the future.
I also like the idea that there are several color straps available that can allow to easily mix it up.
In any case, both are of course great choices!!!!

These two were finalists in my last big hunt. Both great choices of course. I went with Journe and super happy I did.

i love both and have considered both. However I went with a RG CS Journe. I don't wear it as often as my other pieces mostly because I consider it a more formal piece. I think the Journe is a bit more unique. However you will not go wrong with either

Jesus Christ on a bike, the pair of you are making it out that he’ll be decrepit by March, and dead next year!
By that same rationale, you better put the PP order in very soon – you know, before Stern Jr kicks the bucket too.

Almost impossible to choose. Very, very close between those two models.... but if I HAD to... I would pick the CS in this particular case.

I certainly was NOT implying that FPJ will be gone any time soon and I certainly wish him to live many more decades. :)

I was suggesting though that it may not come around very frequently that you get to buy a fantastic watch developed by a true watchmaker during his lifetime and once that founder is gone, prices can go up substantially.
A related example would be the value of Ferrari cars that sky rocketed the day Enzo left this world...

On the other hand, I do realize that there are gazillions of brands that have come and gone, and that FPJ may be one of these someday as well.

Either way, I respect FPJ and his creations tremendously and hope to be able to add one some day, not as an investment, but to truly enjoy it while I still breathe...
