The steady Omega price (and size) increases have been unnerving and were pushing me into the Rolex camp. I always enjoyed wearing the SubC when visiting my AD, but my wife never found it impressive relative to its cost. (Might have something to do with all the imitation/tribute models available across the price spectrum - but I'm not implying it's diminished in my eyes as a result of that.)

About 3 weeks ago I was reading up on Basel 2016 and I saw the ceramic Daytona. It grabbed me by the balls, I mean I was immediately and emotionally attached. Showed my wife, she said this is the one. Expensive for sure, but I'm turning 40 in a few months and she tells me I'm worth it.

I knew about the famous Daytona waiting lists, and sure enough my trusty AD tells me I should expect to wait a while - "no jumping up the list, no matter who you are." OK, something like this is worth the wait. Then I decided to ask at the AD my parents have a relationship with. (My father is a fan of gold Rolexes, and my mom has bought jewelry from them.) I introduced myself via email inquiry, referencing my parents, just checking how long the wait might be. Lo and behold they just received a black one in store and were expecting a white one in a matter of a week, but I needed to commit within 24 hours or they'd let them go. Next day we make the 1 hour drive over there, and my first question is "how did I jump the queue?" Apparently they really appreciate my parents' business and my timing was just right.

Going in I was set on the white dial, but the black Daytona looked amazing. I resisted the "need to have it now" urge and committed to the white, picked it up earlier today.

Fits great, no matter my skinny wrists. Pictures don't do it justice, I think more so for the white vs. black. You can't go wrong with either one, but I already have a black tool watch which I love and I like the overall appearance of the white one that much more.

Even if it's my last such acquisition, I'm glad I had the opportunity to jump on it.

First Rolex might as well go Daytona

A part of me wants to say congrats as I would do with any other "incoming" thread on TRF. But then another part of me is sayin damn! What city is this guy in? Do i not have my daytona on my wrist right now because i was bumped by this guy?
And you are not a client who was shown preference because you have spent more. You are not a client with whom they've built a lengthy relationship. Your daddy is. I get the feeling that this not the 1st time daddy has helped you out. And i probably am about to get bashed for these comments. But its how i feel. You said yourself that you would be pissed. And whoever you bumped in line at whatever AD should be pissed!

It's just a watch. No reason to get ugly here on TRF.

Congrats! Fits beautifully. Wear it in the best of health

Looks like it's not so rare anymore? Seeing lots of incoming recently in TRF.

Take a chill, not in your area. I'm in the DEL-MAR-VA region. Some establishments recognize families as a collective customer and extend some courtesies. They for sure will get my (and my family's) repeat business.

Interesting how you get the feeling I've needed to lean on "daddy". I sympathize with you feeling pissed (especially since it doesn't even affect you personally), but life's too short to make judgements of people you don't know. Hope you get yours soon.

Congrats. I like some of the vintage Daytona refernces, but yours is the first modern Daytona that I've taken a liking to. Very sharp watch.
