GMT is the more useful complication for me. Just wish it had a glidelock.

GMT for me. I live in New Zealand but originally from London so I have relatives in the UK which can be anything from 11 to 13 hours behind depending on daylight savings. Plus I travel frequently to Australia. So I really do find the GMT function useful.

Unless you are a diver, the GMT does everything the Sub does, and has the 2nd time zone!

Voted Sub. Sub has always been my favorite watch. I like GMT's too and have had many over the years. The flatter case back wears nice on the GMT and I like the function, but still prefer Subs.

to the OP's question, I have both watches and the GMT is my default daily wear. This is because I find the GMT function useful as it means I can see what time it is at head office (NY) at a glance.

If I never had to think about different time zones then i would still have a GMT as I think it is a cool watch, but I reckon the Sub would be my daily.

Actually you tell me what about the GMT function is useful? It was made back in the day where cell phones did not exist!

GMT functions adds clutter not only to the dial but also the bezel!

When I travel I set my watch to the local time and I check my iPhone to see the time back home - that's if I can't do simple math like subtracting or adding. I'm not a pilot who is in a different time zone every week to keep track - so yes it pretty much useless. And that's my opinion of course.

But sure if you need another hand to tell you that the U.K. Is +5 hours from EST - then that's your decision :).

Dive computers have made dive watches like the Sub "useless" too.

This day and age had rendered watches "useless" if you think about it but we still wear them.

See my comment above :)

I am entitled to my own opinion and so are you. He asked he question and I answer and gave him my opinion as to why. Cheers :)

They have different clasps. One is glidelock, the other easylink. They are different.

Submariner. I find the timing bezel more useful on the Submariner.

Also, IMO, the GMT bezel is too busy, especially on the 6 digit version. For that reason, I find the GMT less " elegant", less versatile.

Own both, but I enjoy the GMT more as its flat caseback is more comfortable than my Sub's. The second time zone is also more functional than the +200m WR on a daily basis - though one could say the Sub's 120 click is better for timing than the GMT's 24 click bezel. Sub has the better bracelet with glidelock.

Both great, really down to personal preference as bezel layout changes the look of the entire watch.

I'll vote for the GMT here but cheat a little as I would chose the older 5 digit GMT over the new ceramic version.

I put my vote in for the sub, but I can honestly see either one being perfect. The sub gets the slight edge for me, because I use the bezel on my Black Bay for every day stuff like throwing stuff on the BBQ. After a few minutes, I'll flip... that sort of thing. It's practical to me.

What if your cell phone is somewhere you can't reach? Even if it was in my pocket, it's so much easier to see the time for multiple zones on my wrist with a quick glance than pulling out my phone from my pants or bag. Doing the math isn't an issue but it's so much more convenient when don't have to. If you're saying convenience is useless, then I don't know what to tell you.

Just voted and a bit surprised sub is winning over GMT, I think the GMT complication is far more useful than a sub for everyday use and about 99% of us wouldn't ever test the 100m water resistance of a GMT much less a 300m water resistant sub.

If you prefer the looks or have a need for GMT, get that.

Otherwise, sub is cheaper.

I think this is a very ignorant statement.

1) I don't always have my phone with me, and it's time changes whatever country I'm in

2) I travel the globe frequently, and it's nice to be able to turn my dial to see time back in PST where my business is, to Chinese time where my manufacturers are, where the Philippines where my girlfriend is, to California time where my parents are, and to different European time zones where I have many friends.

3) It's nice when I'm on airplane switching time zones. I can just set the time to whatever airport I'm going to to catch my connecting flight

4) My GMT is water proof so I can take it swimming, on a boat etc. where I often don't take my phone

To the OP - get what you need. If Sub is a dive watch and the GMT is awesome if you need the GMT function. I have both and use both. If you don't need either, get whatever appeals to you the most.

I do wish the GMT had the Glidelock. I understand why Rolex only puts them on the dive watches, but it's definitely nicer than the easy link on the other oyster bracelets.
