My dad wore one which was my first exposure to Rolex and his inspiration was Bond. My own influences behind that would include Chuck Yeager and Tom Selleck in Magnum.

For me, the interest is much more in Rolexes history and heritage than to what is worn by media personalities. I love the Sub and SDs being worn for sea exploration, the OPs being worn climbing and evolving into the Exp. The LeMans evolving into the Daytona. Gold DJs evolving into DDs as the result of presidents owning them. Such great history and not much to do with celebrities.

Agreed! There's a nice pic of Jacque Cousteau wearing a submariner on Jake's rolex world to prove the point. Of course, also have to agree that Steve McQueen is also pretty gd cool.

As a kid I wanted a sub like bond, a speedy like the astronauts, and a navitimer like so many famous pilots. Now I have all 3 but don't really pay much, if any attn to celebs at all (haven't owned a tv in 6 years now, and haven't been to a movie theater but once in 8 years.)

To know the future is to be trapped by it

One of the very rare celebrities that actually merits my respect. Not sure he was ever an official Rolex advertising tool. Which garners even more respect from me.

Celebrities are the last place I'd look for inspiration of any kind.

I agree with many of the comments in regards to modern celebrities. I tend to be more fascinated by the one who wore Rolex because they were an awesome watch than because Rolex paid them. Yeager was wearing a Rolex in 1947 when he broke the sound barrier...they may have paid him later but he had already made the choice. I think Selleck is a long time Rolex wearer and isn't an ambassader. The astronauts had to use Speedy's but many preferred their GMT's.

I don't consider her an inspiration pers say but Ellen Degeneres does have a fine Rolex and Patek collection and I believe a "Porsche" collection...no pun intended.

I hate to admit it but one of the realtors on Million Dollar Listing L.A. He wears a black dial Daytona, not ceramic, and I thought it was just great looking. I went to buy one and couldn't read the damn thing for my life... so I eventually ended up with a GMT II LN. I'd always thought highly of Rolex but also thought it was the easy choice, the one people with lots of $$ make without knowing anything about watches. But seeing that one on the show, then ending my predetermined opinion of people who buy Rolex, I became a huge fan. Jakes Rolex World helped a lot, then I found this place. The only watches I want, or at least could see myself buying, are Rolex. Yeah PP's are great, AP's too. But for now Rolex is my choice.

He also wore a DD2 on each wrist at the same time, and I had a DD2 at the time and tho I did sell it, it wasn't just because I'm a non-Belieber.

This is really interesting to me, about 50/50 overall. I'm a bit surprised at how many have never been influenced by someone else considering how long Rolex has been around. Maybe "celebrity" was a poor choice of word on my part. My dad doesn't wear a watch and my grandpa wore Seikos. I had only seen rolexes on "influential people that i admire but don't know personally" until I bought one myself.

Same here, by father was my inspiration to have one. Never asked him who/what inspired him to get one.

I do love Johnny Drama. OK, I change my vote to him and Ari (though I hear he's more of an AP kinda guy).

True, he gets paid to wear them, but I think he WAS an avid Rolex wearer BEFORE they even signed him. Seeing how he wears it, and the way he flashes it, specially the Youtubne video where jhe shows off his DJ and DD ( One he wore when he won his 15th Slam), I think its a match made in heaven...:)
