If money were no object I may go for the Platinum Daytona over SS. But low and behold, money is always a consideration. So that being said, I'm a SS guy at heart. When I think of the fact that I could own 4 SS Daytona's for the price of a Platinum I'm happy enough with my D500.

This is a tough question! I enjoy the SS, and the PMs for different reasons. For instance, my 5 digit SS has a certain "charm" in the way it wears. I know a 5 digit isn't "vintage" quite yet, but in comparison to a modern Daytona, it sure feels that way.
As far as PMs go...there's nothing quite like the feel of a Platona on your wrist! It feels like a watch of real "substance" in its weight. I'm sorry, I can't just pick either or!?

If PM is the same price as SS then PM. I bought a rose gold ceramic bezel PM Daytona brand new for around the same price as a ceramic SS Daytona. The price of the SS ceramic Daytona is stupid. Anyone paying 18-19 k for a SS Daytona has more money then brains.

And if he would have switched the watches on his wrist and had the WG on OF on outside the 16520 would look huge in comparison as well.

Side-by-side, however, they are much more close in dimensions than my picture would suggest. I can post a different picture later today. |

They wear and feel completely different, IMO.
In my mind, the heft, texture, and appearance of the PM pieces (some of the dials are just insane) are on a whole new level. That said, the steel model with the ceramic is just a total home run. My only knock on it is that you just get your choice of two dials. So...back to your original question, I guess I would get a nice pre-owned PM right now and snag a D500 whenever it came available. |

For me the SS is the only way with others taking too much investment and loss.

Enjoying my SS/18K Cosmograph. Yes, not everyone's cup of tea or my first choice but couldn't pass up an opportunity to acquire it. It does look more appealing the more I wear it and it certainly draws its share of compliments, especially with the stunning black dial and concentric sub-dials. Anyone else like this one? (I won't be offended if you don't, but let's at least be respectful in our disagreement!)

I only buy stainless steel Rolexes. That written, I've tried on a Platona and the weight is indeed awesome.

My favorite Daytona is the 116520. It's a modern 6 digit in features, yet different from other modern Professional 6 digits with ceramic bezels. The polished bezel with PCLs allow it to be dressed up or down. I think the white dial 116520 is the most flexible Daytona. For Ceramic Daytonas, I'm looking forward to seeing what full bracelet options with interesting dials are coming in the future.

it depends on the design for me. for PM, I only like the WG Blue dial model, or the WG oysterflex. Those 2 I would choose anyday over daytona SS ceramic esp if youhave to pay premium for the daytona SS. But if other PM models, I would rather have the Daytona SS Ceramic

We are PM all the way. I would never buy new mine have been when then their price has fallen, close to what SS Ceramic charges on second hand market.

I prefer the weight and feel of PM, and there are more variations on the PM. You should be able to get a discount on the PM. This could be the way forward due to the long waiting list on the SS. Even though I have tried on the SS, I do prefer the PM.
I also like the PM on a strap. |
