my problem is its a central london AD with a ton of big fish. I guess they like me so thats good but a 5740 is a bridge too far. Maybe in a few years, but not now.

The amount of big time collectors in there is amazing and i have seen some of them. Its way above my level.

This BS to get popular references in many cases comes down to whales' one-upmanship games played well above the rim for most WIS. Some looking for the references are serious proven collectors in the inner circle and they'll get the nod from Thierry and the PP powers without spending big money on watch clunkers and jewelry trinkets. And they should get their coveted pieces for their collections. But I believe some of these present buyers don't give a rat's arse about the watches or are lukewarm at best except to say that they can and they did pay stupid amounts of money for them. Exceptionally, a few nice guys and gals who have sincere friendships at ADs with commensurate history will break through and get a nice piece.

But doesn’t the AD see you try to immediately sell the “junk” online and cut you off?

Not a bad idea but

1) this would make you a big customer. So its a positive
2) small AD’s highly unlikely get such a piece like this so maybe waste of time.

Lastly dont walk out of store with 300k of watches

Why not? Could get insurance and would save time selling all the watches you bought if some friendly moped rider paid you a visit.. The robber gets the watches and you walk out without losing any money & a 5740g at retail. Thats with ofcourse no issues with claiming

dangerous, isn't it:::)))fact is they don't. you see 'junk' at all ADs, in abundance. all i am saying is this approach has worked, in at least one (to me) confirmed case.

i know very small ADs in places you have never heard about get 1-2 5740s a year. it depends on their relation with the grandmaster in geneve.

I find the idea intriguing... If I had the time- I'd go for it. Unfortunately, I have a job...

I would think you’d need to have spent a minimum of 500k-1M at an AD to even be entertained for one.

You can only ask. No harm in that. Allocation is very very tight on this piece. One is on- line for 225K pre-owed.
