That is like a boss saying he thinks you should drive a more expensive car as your one is not a smart enough addition to the company carpark !

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Maybe her boss would consider providing career development training if he wants to help her to close more deals.

I think right now his wife probably wears Hermes or LV.

Go for SS DJ.

She might get 25% up her salary and use that money to pay for her new Rolex.

Weirdest post I’ve seen on here. I can’t imagine that someone is being told to acquire an interesting watch for business purposes? And a $4000 fashion watch? Strange...

"my boss said so" is just a way of her justifying it. She wants one so you have to get it (happy wife, happy life).

The question is classic vs professional model.
Classic: a date just
Professional: whatever you want to wear too :D

Can some one here explain why this post is “creepy” ? Or why some people feel she should change jobs based on this? I’m 100% on board it’s a bit weird. But without knowing all the details front to back how can we all chime in like this? For all we know she works for Rolex? Or maybe another luxury brand? Maybe in the area they live in with the demographic that makes sense?

You only state "her boss" which leaves it open as to whether her boss is male or female. If it's the former I wouldn't be at all happy if a male boss asked/persuaded/pressured my wife into buying an expensive watch! After she receives her salary that is hers to spend as she wishes, not cool of "boss" to make that comment!

Interesting. That would explain a lot.
Husband and wife have terrible communication.
Wife wants rolex, and makes up a convoluted work story to justify her expenditure to husband.

So buy her a Rolex. Lady Datejusts can be had for fashion watch prices...if fashion watches are 4 grand that is. At least he didn't ask her to show more cleavage or something.

I can't understand people suggesting she quit over this.

usually it works just the opposite, driving an expensive car or in this case wearing an expensive watch could give the appearance that the company is doing very well or over charging clients...

any model you can suggest? She's 38 year's and likes rose gold, but does not like silver.

She can go for a Rolex of $4k so she won't owe much....

OP has not clarified whether boss is male or female but almost everybody here has assumed that boss is a he.

I guess the fashion watch at $4,000 was a typo.

I would venture to guess that OP's wife works in sales at jewelry type shop.

Maybe her having a Rolex would be beneficial to the meetings? Some people see someone wearing a Rolex and automatically see them as a performer or successful. We can argue all day about the moral aspects of that. But what for? I personally thinks it’s super weird. But since I’m here I can make a suggestion. Go on Rolex . Com set a budget and see the options.... then ask her what she likes... pretty simple

I agree with you. Some that are suggesting to have the boss buy his wife a Rolex is just ridiculous. That is very inappropriate in so many ways. I run a company and I have given watches as a prize to performance based bonuses. But never imposed it.

Keep the 4k fashion watch and have her look into plastic surgeons who have 0% financing. Its sad but true, as it may "help her get a way with some deal.

If you’re looking for a Rolex for the strict and sole purpose of standing out or “flexing” your wife should get a TT DJ 36 with a flutted bezel and jubilee. Nothing in the Rolex lineup screams Rolex like that combination.

I understand needing to stand out. I once had a boss who became my business partner and he asked me not to wear my Rolex watches in the office. It was absolutely encouraged to wear one during business dinners or trade shows.

When he didn’t like that some of my choices were “to flashy” he went out and bought me an explorer. I needless to say I wasn’t sleeping with my 70 year old male boss but he did have some watch etiquette suggestions.

Believe it or not, a Rolex helped us seal a pretty large deal as one of the clients reps pointed out during drinks “all y’all wear Rollie’s, y’all know what you’re doing”

If 4000$ is cheap then your wife must buy a daydate lady president yellow gold Rolex. A beauty! Like 25K

My wife is a litigator. She has a Cartier quartz watch for dressy occasions.

She wears an Apple Watch at the office and for court. There is something practical and no nonsense about them. Women have enough hassles they sometimes deal with. Watch politics or pecking order is brushed aside with the Apple Watch.

Explains a little and one can start to see the thought of mind. Wearing a Rolex can give the perception of being successful which can attract clients, but also slightly intimidate the opposing counsel (assuming they know anything about watches). Its far fetched though
