Just make sure when you get the box it is the right box for the watch. They used to make three sizes, now I think its just two with the elimination of the small box (for SS models) which was not too great because the paperwork would not fit into it.

I understand if you bundle a small gold ladies watch with it, you can get a box.

Had it happen to a friend of mine at a AD as well. Seems uncommon but does happen here and there.

I would go gray for the box. They are marked up but the trusted sellers have them for $2k or so. ;)

Rolex ships the watches in individual "coffins"; the AD separately packages the watch in the green presentation box and white sleeve.

This happened to me last summer.

In my case, my AD had an older box that he could have given me at the time of purchase, but instead recommended that I wait for new boxes that he just ordered to arrive. I chose to wait, and pick up a new box about two weeks later. In the end I'm glad that I chose this option since it gave me another opportunity to have my bracelet adjusted and to share how much I was enjoying the watch.

years ago I had that happen, they gave me the datejust box for my sub and it didn't fit, went back and they gave me a larger seadweller size box and I just kept it and was like whatever.

My 'opinion' is this does not sound fishy to me. In fact I am surprised to not have heard of this before. Stuff happens !!!
I'd bet they will eventually come through with the box. Perhaps someone simply neglected to order more when they started running low?

My AD used to offer me to pair my dj41 with the new model of box or the old one (smaller). I chose the new bigger model.

This implies that the watch is not shipped with the box but at least should match in term of number. But then how the box can deplete earlier than the watch is still the question.

Had this happen 2-3x in last few years. It’s no biggie if buying from an AD! The boxes are universal unless it is a pearl master, platinum piece, etc so they run out if they get more watches in than boxes at a given time. I usually just tell him to ship the box out to me with an extra little Rolex giveaway gift inside.

That being said, if it’s your first Rolex or a very special occasion that would be frustrating and not a great buying experience .

Never heard of that. When you buy from a AD, box, papers, tags, come with the watch.

There are different boxes for different models.

But you didn’t say that?
