If I were to buy a DJ, I would want fluted on jubilee bracelet.

Very true - but then it looks like a chubby OP to me

thats a subjective comment and not based on anything but opinion......why do you think it looks better? In my opinion the smooth bezel looks perfect with a oyster bracelet because of the repetition of the smooth forms within the design which create a unified whole. The entire design is in perfect balance because of the proportions, angles and finish of the forms.....

That’s a subjective comment based on nothing but opinion.

In my opinion the smooth bezel and oyster bracelet are not refined enough to carry it off - especially when you look at the slimmer profile and more elegant proportions of the OP.

The Jubilee fluted combination however is the classic look, the fluted bezel gives the height and texture that make it look more refined and elegant.

I had the smooth sold it to buy the fluted, and DJ is not a DJ if it is not fluted.

But my comment is also subjective and based on nothing but my opinion

This forum is frequently about opinions. I am in the camp that if I were to buy a DJ it would most certainly be with a fluted bezel and I would bet most on this forum would say fluted. There are those that love the smooth bezel too. To each their own.

I feel that the fluted makes the watch exquisite and is classic for a DJ. The smooth is one that will show scratches much easier.

I went back and forth on dial choice, ultimately deciding on white Roman numerals because it was different from my other watches. The Jubilee was a must for me, so bezel choice came down to what I thought looked best-I really liked the fluted with the stick indices, but felt it looked a bit “busy” next to the Roman numerals with everything being the same color.

I did like the two-tone version with yellow gold bezel and Roman numerals though.

Yes, my option is also subjective but backed up with reasoning just like your option is backed up by reasoning....

Get both! I have blue, dome, oyster 36 and intend to get a slate, fluted, jubilee next. DJs are just so great. Just need to start saving.

When looking for a Datejust I chose a fluted bezel with a twist; it's a Turn-O-Graph with a white gold rotating bezel marked with numerals every ten minutes. I like the dressy look with a sporty flair.

The potential for appreciation of value has never been a consideration in my watch purchases. It's all about what aesthetically appeals to me and will be something I'll want to wear.

Smooth bezels on Rolex? Blasphemous!
It must be impossible to make a fluted bezel out of platinum. Only thing holding me back from getting a DD platinum. I need them bezels fluted.

First, I would recommend buying whichever you actually prefer, rather than try to game out which would be easier to sell down the road. If you truly have no preference, the majority of replies in this thread are telling...fluted seems preferred. However, I'd say that there's no way to predict what would be most desirable to a potential buyer down the road. Take the Submariner and Submariner Date. A few years ago, I'd say the date version would be easier to sell second hand, because the date model was more popular to begin with. However, some folks strongly prefer the "no date" model and a "no date" Submariner is highly desirable on the secondary market.

So, again, my recommendation is to buy the watch you really like, even love, because you will enjoy it all the more if it's the watch you really connect with.

For what it's worth, in a Datejust, I prefer the 36mm, with jubilee and fluted bezel. I tend to prefer the oyster bracelet with a domed (smooth) bezel. So, if going for a Datejust with domed bezel, I'd likely look for one with the oyster bracelet. However, because a date complication is not a must, I'd go with the Oyster Perpetual, which, of course, has the domed bezel and oyster bracelet, unless availability or a certain dial preference made the OP a no-go.

That, however, is a preconception. Who knows? I might find myself in a shop looking at some other Datejust combination...domed bezel on jubilee, or fluted on oyster, or 41mm, etc...and, for whatever reason, it strikes my fancy. For example, a few years ago, I was in Virginia and wondered into an Alexandria jewelry store, an AD. And, they had a 36mm Datejust, silver dial, white gold fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet. I'd been thinking about a Datejust, but not one with a silver dial because I already had an OP in that same size, with the silver dial. Yet, that Datejust in the Alexandria store just knocked me out. Seeing it in person was key. I bought it and no regrets...

Good luck...

Personal choice but think the fluted on here makes it look like a knock off!
