The problem is that Day-Dates are no longer the type of piece that just sits in the case — they sell for more than MSRP on the secondary market. So, in a way, an AD may already perceive that they are doing you a favor by selling you a DD that there is substantial demand for. Contrast this to a few years ago when DDs would often sit in the cases and purchasing one could rightfully be viewed as helping the AD move product.

That’s a long way of saying that I’m just not sure buying a desirable DD really helps that much these days.

agreed. It is like 4 years ago buying a platinum Daytona ad would love you. Now get a platinum Daytona is like scoring a hot watch.

Appreciate the input!

All of the Daytonas on the grey market are selling at enormous premiums over retail that's why I want to try and get from AD.

Makes sense thanks for the feedback. I'm going to ask and see what they say. I've got nothing to lose by trying!

There are still Day-Date's selling for less than retail though it seems like it's only certain "hot" combinations selling above.

I'd love to buy a platinum Daytona at retail today!

Spend 100-200k on watches and other jewelry and all the sudden and just like magic, there will be one, just arrived just at the moment you happen to walk in. Funny how “luck” and money go together.

Yeah I was hoping that spending close to $50k on a RG DD40 would get me that luck.

Depends on your AD and city... I picked up a SS Daytona (black) yesterday after about a 8 month wait. My only previous history was buying a 41 mm Sub (after waiting 5 months).

Good to know that goes to show at least there's some hope!

It would vary from AD to AD but mine says I get allocated the watches I want because I have a good history of stuff out of the cases. Whether it be jewelry or other watch brands.

Makes sense but in this current market there's nothing in the cases to buy!

Skip the day date. Just buy the Daytona grey and you’ll be saving 50k. You’ll more than likely be waiting 3 years for an ad Daytona. And three years is far to long for a mogul like you

You and me both lol. But we are competing with the gray market, and those folks are dropping 10’s of thousands every week and suddenly the client coming in and buying a watch or jewelry once a year doesn’t cut it anymore.

Lol if I buy the Daytona grey I'll be paying an enormous premium over retail therefore I wouldn't be "saving" anything. The DD40 isn't a purchase being made just to try and get a Daytona. The DD40 is the main watch I want and the Daytona being thrown in would just be an extra perk.

Skip the day date. Save yourself three years and 840 posts on this forum and buy the Daytona grey. You’ll be saving 50k as well

I got a 116500 in less than 60 days from initial request from my AD in late 2018.

I requested a 116519 recently and was met with “we have orders for this watch to last for years.”

We’ll see how it goes.... it’s a different world now vs. 2018

I'm not a big spender in the least ... I just developed a friendship with my AD over the years

I currently own a BLRO, and a Submariner 41, (amoung other brands).

I turned down the Daytona at release and the Skydweller blue dial mostly due to legibility issues. Great watches, just not for me.

My AD knows I'm a watch enthusiast and they appreciate that.

That's amazing to have that type of relationship with your AD without needing the crazy spend history.

One of my former bosses got on the list at Ben Bridge in Lynnwood WA - he has a serious history w/ them and his wait was three years almost to the month.

I really like the Daytona but wow...that's some Buddhist monk level of patience right there.

The watch is so highly coveted and looks so fantastic I get why the loooong wait times.

Wow that's wild. I'm going to ask my AD shortly just to see what they say.

Started a relationship with my local AD 2 years ago with a YM purchase, then a SD43 last year and a CHNR this year. Requested a black dial daytona and they called about 4 months later. FYI.

Quick Update:

I just spoke to my AD and they said they're not allowed to order any of the professional models. They also said the current wait on Daytonas is about 3 years. So much for that!
