Lol, why all the hate towards Thorpe?

He seems like an honest English lad.

It interesting, I couldn't understand a word he was saying; what language was he speaking? But seriously, he's echoing (although be it in a bizarre tongue) the sentiments of many I read on another forum of which I participate (WUS). I even see it here as the daily WRUW threads seem to show less and less Rolex and more of other brands. So, although almost unintelligible, he certainly is voicing what I believe has become a popular perspective on Ma Rolex.

If Thorpe say Rolex are in danger, they are not in danger.

Have to agree but many today believe in everything on the likes of YouTube and so called social media. As many of todays especially those of younger age, whose sole information cupboard is in so called social media,Instagram,Youtube etc. And many now do what ever social media dictates what to buy, or not to buy, as social media have taken over there lives and use of there own brain power to think for themselves.

How is he a retired watch dealer?

Laughable and totally unwatchable and I still have no idea who he is or why he has any credibility at all. But at least you got him a few clicks and thumbs down. That was the purpose right, to drive clicks to his site?

I shouldn't have used the P word in my post. It's what I think, but I shouldn't have posted it. Apologies to Paul Thorpe.

He’s just a guy trying to make a buck, no fault to him though I don’t care to watch his YouTube videos. I’ve seen a couple in the last few years, and his predictions on what Rolex (in particular) will release or stop production on are almost always wrong.

No fault to him, no one knows and contrary to the BS he claims “on good authority”, he has no idea.

If people watch his videos and he makes money, good on him - I’m just not one of those people.

Huh, thanks, Adam--I thought I had encountered that construction before and presumed it was standard, but apparently not! How 'bout things like "crew," "family," etc.--these can be plural in Commonwealth English, can't they?

What I find interesting is how self absorbed the watch collecting hobby is.

The vast majority of Rolex customers WANT ROLEX. They will continue to BUY ROLEX. They couldn't care less about any of the jibber jabber we go on about on these forums and the videos.

They don't know a Submariner from a GMT, but they WANT ROLEX.

They don't know who Paul Thorpe is and would probably think watching a YouTube video about watches would be crazy. Who watches videos about watches???

Most of my allies, colleagues and acquaintances wouldn't know an IWC from an Omega...no matter how much money and celebrity endorsement money they throw at Tom Brady or George Clooney. But, they all ask me about ROLEX. ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX.

They want Rolex, because it is the "BEST" and that in turn makes the person wearing one feel they are the "BEST". Money is SAFE in ROLEX. "Why would anyone buy a watch that is worth less after you buy it" ? "Who does that" ??

Once you get out of the WIS culture, it really is just that simple...

So, no Rolex isn't in any danger whatsoever.

WE built social media. Designed the hardware, implemented it and installed the software so that users as young as 4 could use it. WE used it a LOT and now the younger generations are just following OUR lead. Blame the cause...not the symptom.

People losing interest in Rolex watches is good news to me. The lower the demand, the higher the availability at ADs. Thanks Paul Thorpe, please carry on buying Omegas.

Good point. My granddaughter asked what we did before the internet. I replied that we so bored that we designed it and built it, which kept us gainfully occupied.

As to the mentality exhibited today by many users (but not all), you can't legislate against it, you can't take pills for it, you can't have an operation for it, if you're stupid, you're stupid.

For everyone on the forums that says that they will foreswear Rolex in Disgust there are 20 people who will buy one as soon as it’s available. This guy doesn’t know of what he speaks. Only WIS care.
