Like others said; buy the seller first.

Added complication is the total value of the transaction.

1) you will not deal in cash; too easy to get robbed
2) you will need to give money instantly to seller; which means wire or in person transaction (if you are lucky enough to share in same bank)
3) also you making yourself vulnerable as you are now someone who can “afford” to pay for the watch

If you don’t understand these things you are at a disadvantage.

If you need help with authentication; this also adds complication.

Again, buy the seller; if seller is not WELL known at the bare minimum on the forum… pass

You can ask them to list it on Chrono24 as a private seller.

For Singapore, you can make a mobile phone bank transfer for more than US$100,000 instantly (or at least a few minutes max) while standing in a service center.

Ok; well if there is any doubt of the provenance of the watch… don’t do it as others said

There is solid treatment on this subject in the Mehltretter book, Patek Philippe: Cult Object and Investment.

If you are in Singapore, there are a few authentication services that you can engage. They will do the authentication on the spot with a service fee.

Bought several Patek pieces preowned before.

So far so good except for the last 5065a that i bought which had some defects in the movement.. Really need to scrutinize every part of the watch before purchase.

Nice. No middleman? How did you scrutinize?

for my first patek, i went with the seller to a 3rd party watch shop and have them inspect the authenticity and once verified authentic, i will pay the seller on the spot. Authentication fees on me.

For my other pateks, i mostly just verify against the movement number against the paperwork but do note that for my recent deal, i did not inspect properly and there was some blemish in the movement plates.

Most important is still buy the seller.
