Just got our water bill for June and since we used over 75,000 gallons of water last month, it must be our landscaping.

I wouldn't want to live next door to Bubs...all that water will be undermining the footings...expect your neighbours houses to "float" away Joe Blo!!!!!

My youngest took a ride down our downward sloping driveway once, while lying on his stomach on his skateboard. He was about 5 years old. When the skateboard hit the end of the driveway, it came to a jarring stop where the driveway met the edge of the sidewalk. Andrew's body kept going, and he travelled about 3 more feet with his face directly on the sidewalk surface. The skin was scraped off his face from the top of his forehead to the bottom of his chin. The whole area was filled with bits of gravel and dirt. Now THAT was some healthy long term screaming. Yup. Raising boys. Mega fun.

Our house is about 40 years old in a well-established neighbourhood with wonderful big trees everywhere. The house is on a corner lot. When we bought the house 9 years ago, the previous owners had never ever planted one flower or shrub. The house had 4 large evergreen trees almost hiding the house, which is just a small bungalow. We cut down those four trees to be able to see the house and allow light in, but of course left the 30 year old Starburst Locust tree on the front lawn. We did mega landscaping which included a huge flower island near the corner, which has a large white solar lamp post in it. It makes a great landmark. The only sidewalk the house ever had was a row of patio stones. We've had all the windows replaced. Within the last couple of months we've had lots of reno done to the house. Soffit, fascia and eavestroughs (never had the soffit and fascia before), had new front steps poured, which are at least a foot and a half wider than the original, had a sidewalk poured, and today the last of the work gets done when the contractor comes and installs our new porch railings.

I think the neighbours notice. I know our bank does.

Ours is nearly 50 years old. It's the only grey house on the block; the only one with an attached 2 car garage; and the only one that sits in the middle of trees.

And the pizza delivery guy still misses it when I host the poker game.

Sure it's not a leak, Joe? We once got a quarterly water bill for $3,000+, when our normal bill runs $180. I called WSSC and it turned out we had a leak in the main running from the street to the house. And, of course, the leak was on our property, so it was our responsibility. A $4,000 repair job later, we got a credit for the $3,000 bill. Fortunately, insurance covered some of cost.

I will close the shut-off valve in the house, the one right after the pressure reduction valve, and see if the meter is running this afternoon when I get home from work.

Actually, that's the breezeway between the garage and the front door. When we added the garage, I did not want a door going from inside the garage directly into our family room. So we added the covered breezeway which keeps us dry going from the garage to the front door. There's a window in the front of the family room that would have been completely dark but for the skylight.

You also can't see the octagonal window above the garage doors. That let's light from the front into our home office, which is off the master bedroom and is the size of the garage. The back windows look out over the back yard, which is all trees and no grass (just the way I like it).

What color gutters would expect on a grey house, ol' colorblind1957? Fuschia?
