Perhaps you could cut a new poster some slack? Probably not an enthusiast who is looking for a present for a loved one and they get this sarky reply.

Way to go fella, you really told them.

IDK, I think everything is about balance and building a relationship. and I do agree with Padi that reference numbers are important.

When I meet a new SA, I probably end up using a combo of Model names (GMT-Master II), reference (126710BLRO) and nickname ("Pepsi") throughout the course of a long conversation.

For example: "I love the GMT-Master II line... the BLRO 'Pespi' is my favorite.... the thinner lugs and 3285 movement upgrade on the 126710 vs. 116710 was a nice change... I prefer the look of the aluminum color bezel of the 5-digit Pepsi vs. 6 as they can't quite get the colorway right". yada yada yada...

Ha, so true.

While everyone's so focused on nicknames, isn't *this* the most significant part of the thread?!

Anyone has any suggestions?
Much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!
I would still reach out to your local AD's and let them know its a Bday gift for your husband. You might get lucky. If not, check Chrono24 and search Canada sellers. I generally find out who is selling and then go directly to the dealers website.

Almost guarantee you that 99.7% of the SA's helping you have no idea what movement numbers are in the watches. Most don't know the reference numbers. They might know the names BLNR. BLRO, etc.

Most go by nicknames, or Daytona, Sky Dweller etc actual names.

It is very hard to get Gmt from A.D unless you have good spend history.Try watch finder in Toronto.

Agreed. For reference OP, my spend history was about 12k on jewelry and a nearly 2 year wait, prior to "moving up from 5th in line to 1st" to be offered the BLNR.

If you're not interested in jewelry or building a long relationship of watches, probably better to go secondary market with a trusted seller here. You'll have the watch in a day at your doorstep.

Update: Sorry I noticed Patrick sold his BLNR on Jubilee already today. He does have a BLNR on oyster. That’s been the trend with BLNR on Jubilee as they sell as fast as they get put up within hours. Everyone else is out except DavidSW will have a few but at a higher cost in the $21k+ range. He will ship to Canada if that helps.

Just ignore these snarky geriatrics! They refuse to acknowledge that everyone calls them by their nicknames because they do not like usingh nicknames. I just got the VTNR and my AD left a message and said "your Sprite has come in"!

It’s funny - and telling - that so many ADs use nicknames, and the Rolex website search recognizes/acknowledges them.

I’m personally indifferent to the use of nicknames. But it’s kinda sad that some get so bothered by this. Life’s too short to spend getting worked up over something so trivial.

Oh, and congrats on your new GMT!

It's funny, because Rolex doesn't market the nicknames at all. The people create them, they stick, and become engrained in the vernacular very quickly, and with staying power.

The nicknames are some of the best advertising Rolex can buy, and they didn't have to buy a penny. Just sit back and let it grow on its own.

Have you seen his GMT prices?

He's as trustworthy as they come. That is not in question.

Yes, David SW does put up high ask prices. That’s what negotiating is for, but there are probably items on which he won’t budge. I’ve only bought one watch in the grey market and it was from him. He was referred by two friends who have bought more from him.

You definitely buy the seller. How much of a premium that you want to pay is up to every buyer’s own thought process.

Who cares to remember all numbers and letters, just tell them what you want, your ask, your choice, just like their respond: their store, their choice.

The BLNR on Jubilee is a watch I'm quite interested in as its one I've never owned but the Batgirl nickname rather puts me off.

Forget the nicknames, I'm also using the Ref. numbers and the 126710BLNR is just the same watch. What puts me 100 % off is its caliber.

I love the batgirl. Wears beautifully.
The name doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
