Something different, an old love affair...

Ahh! I wish I could be content with one. Good story. Continue to make many more memories with it.

Fantastic story!
I also walked into an AD in 1997 and left with a 16610. Was a one and only for about 10 yrs. Went astray for quite some time with other brands after trading that 16610 for a Breitling Kept a few other brands until around 2015, then back to Rolex. Found TRF at that point as well.
From there….roller coaster/journey/passion ignited again and hasn’t stopped.

Thank you to all of you for your very kind replies to my post! I wasn´t expecting so many of you to relate to my feelings about my old 14060! I reckon there might be more one-watch-and-done guys and gals hiding out there than one might think...!!

Yes, it has! All around the world on my wrist, never babied...Japan, Hong Kong, South America (every country apart from Peru and Colombia), the UK and every EU country. I never thought twice about wearing it, but I´d be more careful now! That´s why I bought a Casio G-Shock 5610U two years ago...

Sure! I bought it in Hamburg, where I work and live, and paid DM 3450 back in the day...not one cent over the price as listed in the Rolex catalogue, and no silly games either! As far as I can find out DM 3450 in 1996 would be roughly equivalent to €2,950 today...!!

Pity about the lume. How long did it take for it to finally die to the point where it became virtually useless to you?

Any of my Rolex watches that I've had with Tritium were just about done by about 7-8 years
I still miss my old 5513 which was supposed to be my one and done watch
That´s hard to say, but I think I noticed that the lume was almost completely dead when I took it for its first service in 2009, so that would be 13 years. I mentioned this to the AD, and they told me that the tritium Rolex uses eventually dies after about 12 years. I wasn´t aware of this back in the day...!

Like you, I have only one Rolex, also a Submariner, although a later model. If you're only going to have one, it's a great choice.
Thank you! But my Submariner purchase on 26th February 1996 just pales in comparison to your memory of your first child´s birth on that very day!

I´m amazed too! At its last service in 2019 I was actually able to talk to the watchmaker who´d serviced my watch. He told me that the old Rolex caliber 3000 is a joy to work on and easy to regulate, and quite capable of running almost as exactly as the new models, even if it doesn´t have "Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified" on the dial. Well, he was right...!

Thank you Kat! I know from reading your posts that you have a VERY large collection! Well, I admire people who can cope, for example, with the question of which one to wear, among other things! I freely admit that I couldn´t!

THIS is why I love TRF... Thanks for sharing Ian. If only Rolex still manufactured the 14060... One can dream.
