Panerai is a generic watch using eta manual wind movements

Well like many here, I own both Rolex and PAM watches (and others) but these are the 2 brands are the ones I like most. No need to say why I like Rolex as this is a rolex forum but for PAM, the brand consistency across the entire range is admired. I mean, you can't mistake a PAM (unless it's a replica or hommage) for other brands and as a "jewellery" watch, it shouts louder than most brands. But the fun part is the strap changing - it makes owning a PAM so much more fun!

I had 2 panerai's one had a flaw in the crystal and the luminor was like wearing a wood block on my wrist.

And the oem straps are horrible


Not trying to piss anybody off
I just don't care for there build quality

fine junk was a little harsh
They do seem to hold there value

Panerai makes some pretty good watches. Simple in design, very good looking and pretty reliable. I somehow like variety in my collection and have tried to mix my watches, by buying different brands, rather than sticking to one brand.

Current collection is Breitling Bentley GT, Panerai 176 K, Ferrari 1, Rolex 16610and IWC Portuguese 3714-01. Thinking of replacing 16610 with 16613 and adding SS-Platinum Yatchmaster to the collection, if I can swing it.

Having owned these, Pam remains one of my favorites. Read a comment about bad quality of their straps earlier in this thread. Their OEM alligator straps are amazing quality and are second to none!

Ok Back to the Theme, 95% of all worldwide watches have ETA based movements! Panerai now has their own movements. I wish I can list all the watch manufacturers that Use ETA!

Panerais are great watches and you must think before posting because a 45 to 50% of the members here own Panerais, everyone has their own likings I Wish I could have one! Panerais are completely worth the money! And the Innumerable people here like me that wish that they could one a Panerai. Maybe u mistreated those 2 Pannies u had.

Truth is you can get any cheapie watch made in china or whenever with a manul wind unitas movement, there are dozens on ebay under $200, and they mostly look like panerai's. The reason for buying a watch isn't because it has a in-house movement, or because it is in style or well known. Panerai's appeal to some more than others, the buyer can justify the quality. Some people's $4000 is more valuable than others, and if they are going to throw down that much money they will spend it on something they want, even if the watch as a basic movement and is larger than life.

I think you should have shown some respect & diplomacy in your opening this thread. Panerai may not be to everyone's taste, but as they have only been widely available to the public for a little over ten years & have their huge fanbase their recognition within the industry is a massive achievement.

Some say Stallone launched them into the public eye. His career has been flat for some years now & IMO I think Panerai would still as successful without him. That's because they are extremely legible- non fussy dials & simple robust movements. In my mind a Paneri is like a 911- will always hold it's value & be sought after.

In todays market that's what it's all about, people are mainly buying watches without wanting to lose money in the deal, Panerai are one brand that appears to have survived the worst and still continued to sell well, mainly due to its size of production and of course the fact that they are getting more and more popular.

Everytime i read this type of stuff it does make me think that the original posters don't really know much about watches, they think that if a watch has an 'in-house' movement then it is superior to everything else, but in reality ETA have been producing movements like the 7750, 2824, etc for half a century in some form and they are regarded as some of the most rugged and accurate movements you can get, of course the basic ETA in a £200 watch is usually different to the ones in the likes of Panerai, Bremont, Hublot, etc as these companies mainly order the higher spec movements and have them regulated and COSC certified.

Cannot understand why not, why would you think Patek chose the Lemania Cal. 2310 to re-work.Quite simple its one of the finest robust base movements to start with.But after the re-work by Patek now the movement is in the top class of two register chronographs.

You think they're junk and managed to own two of them? Over the last couple of years I flipped quite a few watches, including a couple of Rolex and a Panerai 111. Out of the bunch, I miss the 111 the most!
