This is a matter of preference, but here's mine. If you have the money and are planning to buy a few watches, I would strongly consider getting a tritium dial 16700 or 16710. My second choice would be any 16710 with solid end links. Mine has lug holes, which is popular, but it doesn't really matter. I rarely remove the oyster bracelet, and it's not that much harder to remove a bracelet without lug holes.

Take your time and buy from one of the trusted sellers here on TRF. This is where you will get the best bang per buck.

For a first Rolex I’d pick up the Submariner.

Own a 16710 and a Hulk...love the Hulk, but the 16710 is just all class and perfection. There's my vote.

16710 ... all day every day.

Be aware that it’s 20 years old and may need a service on the movement soon. Make sure you ask for how it runs on the timegrapher and be prepared that it may need a service.

Wait until the dealer has the 126600 Sea-Dweller. As you said, Subs are everywhere, as are GMTs.
Just my 2 cents.....

I F’ing hate the 5 digit tuna clasp, but that’s what I’d buy in this scenario

I'd get the black diver with glidelock clasp.
