Not only does it not look too big, it looks like a perfect fit...

Also, taking a wrist watch shot like that is not a good way of seeing whether a watch fits your wrist. I know people do it for privacy but the best way is to look at yourself in a mirror from a distance.

That's how people see the watch on you. People don't hover over you like a helicopter and look down on your watch at the area around your watch.

I have a small wrist but can pull off somewhat bigger watches because of my overall size (I lift...). If I judged a watch only by the angle you are posting, then I'd be limiting myself.

I'm always the first to say, if it looks too big it probably is.
In this case I think it looks great.

Think about it: but for the “you tube” video, you would have no reason to believe your watch was not a perfect fit.

It’s fine. Wear and enjoy.

Looks perfect! I wouldn't go for a 36mm, most likely, you'll regret it and come back to 40.

You were fine before watching YouTube and now it’s too big? Your watch is a perfect fit.

I'm not at all a fan of over-sized watches, and usually when the question's asked "is this watch too big?" the answer is painfully apparent, but this watch looks perfect for you. It's a sports watch so you have a little more leeway on fit anyway as it's supposed to be big.

I prefer my watch be smaller rather then larger on my wrist. But only you can decide. I would try a 36-39mm on and stand in a full length mirror to get real life affect.

In this video the guy recommends that your watch from lug to lug should sit comfortably within the breadth of your wrist.

This made me think, is my 40mm too big for my wrist, would I be better suited to a 36mm ?. I have pretty slender wrists (around 6.5 to 7.0 inches). Lug to Lug spans about the top breadth of my wrist.

I attach a picture of my watch on my wrist. Does this look off? Do I need a smaller watch? or Am I just overthinking it & it does look fine? your thoughts would be appreciated.
Looks good

Not too big. Most likely you have a bigger wrist than the majority of SubC wearer

I see them on tiny <6" wrists every single day

I'd keep it.

I'm in the "36 is too small camp", so I definitely wouldn't go there
